Workshop Session Overviews  

This session invites participants to deepen their understanding of treaty responsibilities and explore meaningful ways to uphold the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Calls to Action.

Through engaging discussions, interactive activities, and the sharing of Indigenous wisdom, participants will leave with a greater sense of their role in fostering respectful and reciprocal relationships with the land and Indigenous communities.

This workshop is an opportunity to honour the past, recognize the present, and commit to a future rooted in justice and reconciliation.

Canvas’ Two Spirit and LGBTQ+ Inclusion program for parents and caregivers provide participants with both foundational and nuanced understandings of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities, including exploring key terms, pronoun use, the Ontario Human Rights' Code, and a framework for allyship. Through interactive activities and empathy-based programming, participants will leave the trainings with robust skills for creating safer, supportive spaces for Two Spirit and LGBTQ+ identified youth. This workshop will take place over two sessions.

This session takes a deeper dive into the Affirming Muslim Identities Strategy.  It offers an opportunity to understand the historical roots of Islamophobia and its impact on Peel students and families.  

Join us as we explore the strategy to gain an understanding of how to dismantle all forms of Islamophobia. Through  rich dialogue and meaningful activities we will closely examine the pillars of implementation and how our collective work ensures student success.

By taking time to connect with organizations you will have an opportunity to learn more about the supports they offer, how they can help you and your family, and how to access these supports. Take some discovery time for 1 of the 3 workshop blocks to explore and learn!

Parents will learn about the prevalence of sex trafficking in Peel and will gain an awareness of the signs of luring and grooming. This information helps parents keep their children safe on line and in person.  Disclosures and reporting supports will also be discussed.

In our upcoming workshop, "Sum-thing Special" we'll delve into the transformative power of games through purposeful practice in mathematics education. Drawing insights from the principles outlined in "High-Impact Instruction in Math," we'll explore strategies that not only enhance mathematical proficiency but also foster an environment of anti-oppression, anti-racism, equity, and inclusion. Through targeted instruction,(why this game right now?) we aim to dismantle barriers and empower all learners to excel in math. By incorporating purposeful practice, we ensure that every student receives the support they need to thrive, regardless of background or identity. How many times have you sat around the supper table and asked “What did you do at school today?,  only to hear a response of “nothing”?

By connecting outdoor learning to our local green spaces, we build personal connections to every day learning. When our children see ducks nesting in the retention pond or when they first smell an apple blossom at the park a block from home, they want to share this with family. When families begin to explore their communities in this way, it resembles the Italian tradition of La Passeggiata - the evening stroll where the entire community goes to meet and discuss life.

Many classes will study the plight of the Giant Panda in China, however, can we name a single endangered plant or animal in our own community? By becoming aware of our own backyards, we are creating an identity and building pride in our neighbourhoods. We are creating a sense of belonging and building connections.

Numerous school communities have requested the school board’s Outdoor & Environmental Education Department to work with School Councils on numerous opportunities including:
