Greetings and welcome to the Excellence in Eloquence site! Our names are Darwin Chan and Lynn Hope. We are both Staff in Peel and are the Registration Organizers of the Peel District School Board’s Excellence in Eloquence speech challenge, now running 22 years strong in Peel. This challenge was originally designed to motivate student success in oral and written language through opportunities to communicate their thinking, perspective, and opinions in ways consistent with The Future We Want. Using an anti-oppressive lens, the protocols are in alignment with our commitments to anti-racist education, the Empowering Modern Learners addendum, and meeting the goals of the Ministry Report. Perhaps you've seen us in the media. We would like to personally invite your school to send one Grade 4-6 (Junior) and/or one Grade 7-8 (Intermediate) representative to this year's regional competition. There are Junior and Intermediate Regional competitions that will take place in person at a Host School.
Junior Competition
The Junior Competitions will take place at various sites on Thur., May 22, 2025 from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. The three students from each site, with the highest scores from each Junior Regional competition will proceed to the Board-wide finals being held on Thur., May 29, 2025 from 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Intermediate Competition
The Intermediate Competitions will take place at various sites on Wed., May 21 or Thur., May 22, 2025 from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. The three students from each site, with the highest scores from each Intermediate Regional competition will proceed to the Board-wide finals being held on Wed., May 28 2025 from 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
The Junior and Intermediate winners from the Finals will be recognized by the Peel Board. Over the years, we have had many schools compete at our Finals for a trophy, plaques, and medals sponsored by the Dale Carnegie Institute. Trustees, teachers, parents, and special guests have all been actively involved. It is always an amazing time! It really gives articulate students in our Board a chance to shine.
Because we can only take a limited number of schools, it will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. Below, you will find the Excellence in Eloquence Speech Package Link and the Junior and Intermediate Divisions Registration Links. You may share this Speech Package with your staff or your Language Arts Chair to see if your school would like to enter this exciting contest. If so, please register online and send your $20 cheque as soon as possible to be confirmed. If you have any questions, please contact the following Representatives:
Junior Rep: Lynn Hope at Countryside Village Public School.
Intermediate Rep.: Darwin Chan at McCrimmon Middle School.
Thank you for your consideration. Hope to see your school represented there!
Sincerely yours,
Darwin Chan and Lynn Hope
We would like to thank all the Trustees, Superintendents, and School Council members as well as the School Community Partners from business and faith groups who have served at different schools as judges for the school, regional, and final speaking events.
