Grounding Documents for CHV 2O (Revised 2022)
The Minister of Education has issued a revised Grade 10 Civics and Citizenship Course, found within The Ontario Curriculum, Grades 9 and 10: Canada and World Studies, 2018, as part of the government’s commitment to modernizing education and preparing students for success beyond the classroom. This course will be implemented in classrooms across the province starting in September 2022.
Ontario’s revised Civics and Citizenship course is redesigned to help students learn what it means to be a responsible, informed, and active Canadian citizen, both within the classroom and in the communities they belong to outside of school. Students will meaningfully explore digital literacy and the role of social media in civic engagement and politics. Students will better learn about key functions of government, like budgets and the development of legislation, as well as the historical roots of the rights and freedoms enjoyed in Canada.
It is imperative that all curriculum be reflective of and consistent with current Ministry and PDSB priorities, so we must ensure that the foundation has been clearly set and accountability measures in place.
These grounding documents outline our collective legal, ethical and moral responsibility to actively engage in work that identifies, disrupts and dismantles all forms of oppression and racism within our schools.
CHV 20 Curriculum Document (Revised 2022)
This curriculum policy presents the revised and updated curriculum expectations for the compulsory Grade 10 Civics and Citizenship course (CHV2O). This revised course supersedes the course outlined in The Ontario Curriculum, Grades 9 and 10: Canadian and World Studies, 2018. Beginning in September 2022, the Grade 10 Civics and Citizenship course implemented in all Ontario secondary schools will be based on the expectations outlined in this curriculum policy.
