To know the grade level of the course, read the fourth character. For example, CHC2D is a Grade 10 course because the fourth character is a 2 (second year of high school). Please note that applied Geography and Canadian History (CGC1P and CHC2P) are no longer offered.
To know the level of a course, read the fifth character. For example, American History is a U level course because its code is CHA3UO Grade 9 and 10 courses are D for academic/destreamed or O for open. Grade 11 and 12 courses are C for college, M for mixed (college and university), and U for university. Colleges can use C, M, and U courses for admissions. Universities will use M and U courses for admissions.
