The Grade 10 course, Leading and Launching a Business, introduces students to the world of business and what is required to be successful, ethical, and responsible in today’s economy. Students will develop the knowledge and skills needed to be an entrepreneur who knows how to respond to local and global market opportunities. Throughout the course, students will explore and understand the responsibility of managing different functions of a business. This includes accounting, marketing, information and communication technology, financial management, human resources, and operations.

Unit 1: Business Leadership, project management and entrepreneurial mindset (business leadership styles; project management process and key performance indicators; social, economic, environmental and ethical issues in entrepreneurial venture; success and challenges of Canadian entrepreneurs; entrepreneurial mindset, applying problem solving process)
Unit 2: Entrepreneurial venture (needs & wants of consumers, consumer choice, applying design process to identify how to meet market need or opportunity; use pitch process to effectively communicate entrepreneurial ideas, target market and competition, feasibility of entrepreneurial venture, financial viability of a venture, financing and launching an entrepreneurial venture)
Unit 3: Business Functions (factors of production, improving productivity; human resources, rights and responsibilities of employers and employees; marketing, advertising, mission statement; accounting and accounting procedures)
Unit 4: Economic foundation (supply & demand, economic cycle, market forces; competitive market environment in Canada; trade relation;, government intervention; business in Canada, types of businesses and business ownership, Canadian businesses and indigenous communities)
Unit 5: Business technology, Applications and Careers (Digital technologies, tools and applications to support various business related tasks, online safety and data security, transferable business skills; business career, portfolio of business competencies & growth as an entrepreneur)
