Reflections, Celebrate the Arts at School
The National PTA Reflections Program is an arts recognition and achievement program for students. The Reflections Program provides opportunities for students to express themselves creatively and to receive positive recognition for original works of art inspired by a per-selected theme while increasing community awareness of the importance of the arts in education. This year’s theme is “I Belong! “and all artwork created for this year should reflect this theme.
Reflections has 6 art categories for students to enter:
Visual Arts (painting, drawing and also 3-D artwork such as sculpture)
Reflections has 5 grade divisions:
Primary (TK-2nd grade),
Intermediate (3-5th grade),
Middle (6-8th grade),
High School (9-12th grade) and
Accessible Arts ( K-5th grade and 6th-12 grade.) Now 2 grade divisions!!!!
The Program was started in 1969 to help promote the arts in public schools, by National PTA board member Mary Lou Anderson. It is designed to provide an opportunity for students of all grades and abilities to express themselves and explore their creativity. Each year hundreds of thousands of students in preschool through grade 12 create and submit original works of arts. Students may participate in the national awards program through their school's PTA.
Schools must have a PTA in good standing and a Reflections Chair or individual who is willing to represent the Reflection Program, in place for students to participate in the program. If these requirements are met then schools will be on the path to providing their students the chance to explore their creativity and look at the world around them in a new and different way. Support your local schools Reflection Program and give children a chance to voice their needs, thoughts and creativity through art and support the Reflections Program.
