  8th June 2023

Dear Parents,

What a wonderful week we have had at PDO School! Year 5 and 6 pupils performed the acclaimed musical "Seussical". Everyone in the audience I am sure will agree, that it was a fantastic performance! Thank you to all the children who took part and the parents and teachers who supported - the result was tremendous and a testament to all the talent we have here at PDO School coupled with hard work.  Please take some time to view the Class Pages for more detailed information about your child's learning this week and any class notices here

Early Years

Children in FS1 have been learning how to write their names and are making great progress both in developing fine motor skills as well as memorising and forming the letters of their name.  Children have also been developing their gross motor skills using soft play equipment in the gym hall.

Children in FS2 have enjoyed some visits from Year 2 over the last 2 weeks.  Y2J made a booklet for the FS2 children which outlined all of the things they could look forward to when they move up to Year 1.  Children paired up and talked about all of the exciting changes, for example a new classroom, playground, friends and toys.  Y2T followed this up by making 'good luck' cards for the FS2 children.  Thank you to Year 2 for spreading kindness!

Year 4

This Thursday, Year 4 enjoyed a visit from Chef Omar and his team who delivered a presentation on chocolate and then led the children in a chocolate making workshop. The children were very excited to design and create their own packaging before presenting and enjoying them during our Exit Point on 21st June.

Year 5

This week, the Year 5 children are putting a new spin on old classics. They are rewriting beloved fairy tales with a different cultural influence. From an Omani Cinderella to an English Aladdin, the children are making fantastic links between different cultures while producing high quality sentences to engage their audience.

Year 6 Production - Seussical

Following the spectacular opening performance to the rest of the school on Monday, the second performance of Seussical on Tuesday evening was equally fantastic and greeted with a standing ovation from the audience.

The Year 6 children have worked incredibly hard in the lead up to the show and should be immensely proud of their achievements. There was so much talent on display with children showcasing their singing, dancing and acting. They were ably assisted by the Year 5 choir who provided amazing backing vocals to fill the hall with glorious song.

A huge thank you to everybody involved with the production; it would not have been possible without all of your support.

An extra special thank you to our director, Ms Kirsty, who has worked tirelessly to make this event truly unforgettable for the children.

Music Enrichment

Well done to all of the children who continue to support the many music enrichment activities; either before school, during lunch time or after school. Even as the year comes to a close, it as been very encouraging to see children so enthusiastic and committed.

There will be one final Informal Concert this year involving keyboard groups and Choir. It will also be my final concert before I move on to my next challenge so I hope you will be able to attend. Everyone is welcome of course. There hasn't been much time to prepare so depending upon how rehearsals go, it will either be Thursday 15th or Thursday 22nd June. I will update you when I have confirmed the date.
