This week, our teachers have been deeply engaged in 'Looking for Learning': a peer observation initiative where we visit each other’s classrooms to celebrate great learning, share ideas, and reflect on how we can keep improving. Continuous Improvement for all is a key target.
Looking for Learning isn’t about evaluations or judgements; it’s about collaboration. Teaching is both an art and a science, and when we observe one another, we gain fresh perspectives and discover new strategies. Every teacher brings something special: whether it’s a knack for sparking curiosity in Maths, a gift for storytelling, or a way of fostering kindness in the classroom. These observations help us share those strengths and we have detailed conversations after the classroom visits, helping to develop our teaching skillsets.
At our school, we believe growth happens best in a supportive environment, where we learn as much from each other as we do from formal training. Education never stands still, and neither do we. By opening our doors to colleagues, we stay inspired, refine our craft, and ultimately provide even richer learning experiences for your children.
Many thanks to all the parents who have taken the time to write such positive comments about the Art week in school. The event has been enjoyed by the whole community; again parent support is key in making this event a success and thanks to you all for supporting. Thanks to Ms. Jo for organising such an engaging week of Art that showcased perfectly how we recognise and support the arts at PDO school.

It was fabulous to see so many parents joining in with our Exit Point. The children and parents were busy making treasure boxes and pirate ships! The children in Nursery and Reception will be testing their boats tomorrow during swimming, so let's see if they float!
This unit has taken us on pirate adventures and an exploration of under the sea. We talked about how important it is to look after our oceans so the children may be looking out for rubbish on their next beach visit.
In Year 1, we have been learning about celebrations from around the world; this week we learnt about Chinese New Year...

We have been diving into the colourful traditions of Chinese New Year and 2025- the Year of the Snake! We discovered how people dress in bright clothes, give gifts, enjoy delicious special foods and take part in lively festivities like the dragon dance. We created vibrant red lanterns and mini dragons to decorate our classroom.
The students also sharpened their research skills using multimedia (videos, images, articles and books) to research facts and collaborate to create informative posters. They are masters at using highlighter pens and finding the information they need!
Wonderfully, the children have started making connections between different cultures and celebrations, ones that they know and are learning about, such as: comparing traditions, the reasons people celebrate, food and decorations. Last week, we explored Japan’s beautiful Cherry Blossom Festival, learning about the arrival of spring and the importance of nature in Japanese culture.
Next up, we’ll be learning about International Women’s Day - its history, significance and its important role in equality.

This week, in the unit Vanishing Rainforests, Year 3 have been developing their understanding of how animals have adapted to live in rainforest environments. The children worked together to research and share fascinating facts about different adaptations. They then used their new knowledge to design their own imaginative rainforest creatures, before explaining their adaptations to each other.

Each child selected a river from their home country and used a range of media—watercolours, pastels, collage and more—to craft a unique and eye-catching piece. The results were not only visually striking but also deeply personal, reflecting the diversity and global reach of our school community.
Our aim is to use these wonderful pieces to create a collaborative gallery, with each artwork representing a different part of the world, and a single river symbolically flowing through them all. This river will represent the unity, cohesion, and shared journey of our community. A huge thank you to all the parents who joined us—not only for your help and support, but for your creativity, encouragement, and enthusiasm. It truly was a special afternoon that showcased the power of collaboration and artistic expression.
Congratulations to Hamiz (Year 6) and Alman (Year 4) on the remarkable achievement of completing the full recitation of the Holy Quran. A special commendation to Hamiz as well for receiving a distinction in his vocals exam. Well done to both of you — we are incredibly proud of your dedication and accomplishments!
This week, we had fun making marks in the sand and learning how to wash our hands with soap. A playful mix of creativity and self-care!
As always, it's wonderful to see lots of learning objectives and PLGs being achieved!
Just a gentle reminder — if your child is turning 3, you're warmly invited to register them at PDO School and join our Toddler Hut sessions!
These sessions are a fantastic way for little ones to explore through play and start feeling right at home in our school setting. If you have any questions or would like more information, feel free to reach out to us at notices@pdoschool.com. We can’t wait to welcome you and your little ones to Toddler Hut!
