As we move through this academic year, I continue to be inspired by the incredible spirit of our school community. In the face of uncertainty about our future, the dedication of our staff, the joy of our children, and the support of our families remain stronger than ever. There is something truly special about PDO School, and it shines through in the energy and enthusiasm we see every day.
This week’s newsletter is a perfect reflection of that. From the imaginative creations in Makers Club to the joyful learning in our Book Week celebrations, our school has been alive with creativity, curiosity and connection. The dress-up parade was a particular highlight, with children and staff bringing cherished book characters to life—cheered on by a supportive parent audience. It was inspiring to see all the support provided by the parents- thank you.
Whether it’s storytelling in the park, animated tales in Milepost 1, winning at Basketball or our Student Council taking real steps toward sustainability, our students continue to show just how much they can achieve. They remind us of what matters most: learning, fun, and a community that work towards shared goals.
Thank you for sharing in these moments and for being part of our journey and many thanks to all our school staff - teachers, LSAs, administrators who are all committed to PDO School.
HSE - We have received an enquiry relating to the frequency of PDO staff (Road Safety/ Security) at the school crossings at the start and end of the day. Currently we receive support on Monday and Wednesdays before and after school. We are looking to extend the cover beyond these current times, but this is of course dependent on availability of PDO Staff.
We've had an exciting and enriching Book Week, with a strong focus on promoting pupil voice and a love of reading for pleasure. It has been impressive to hear how confidently and thoughtfully our children express their thoughts about reading.
We believe that by learning more about themselves as readers - what they enjoy and how they engage with stories - they are developing the foundations to become even more successful and lifelong readers.
Book Week has been a celebration of imagination, expression, and growth, and we couldn’t be prouder of how our students have embraced it.
Take a look at all the photos taken over the course of the week: EYFS, MP1, MP2, MP3, mixed year groups, adults
Our Book Day Parade was a fantastic celebration of our shared love for reading and a wonderful showcase of the creativity within our school community! From imaginative costumes to enthusiastic performances, it was a joyful event that truly brought stories to life.
A heartfelt thank you to our amazing parents for supporting their children with such fantastic costumes and for coming along to cheer them on. A big shoutout to Mr. Scott for being our brilliant MC and keeping the energy high throughout the event. And of course, thank you to our incredible PTA for keeping everyone warm and caffeinated with coffee and good cheer!
It was a special day that highlighted the joy of reading and the strength of our school community.

Tips for reading with your child
Last week children came from across the Mileposts to take part in Makers Club.
As part of SDG 12 'Responsible Consumption and Production' the children made use of recycled materials to design and create props or costumes ahead of our World Book Day dress up day this week.
Book Week is here! We’ve enjoyed cozy corners, rhyme time and plenty of giggles as we explored stories through play. The children loved dressing up as their favourite book characters and proudly showed off their costumes. A big thank you to everyone who helped make it such a fun and memorable celebration!
Year 1 had an amazing day out at Qurum Park to celebrate the end of our IPC unit, The Stories People Tell. The children were absolutely brilliant—showing excellent behaviour, teamwork and enthusiasm throughout the day.

Our visit began with a treasure hunt adventure, where the children used a map to find different locations around the park. They worked together in small groups, showing great curiosity and excitement as they navigated their way through the park. We also enjoyed a picnic lunch under the shade of the trees—one of the highlights of the day. Sharing lunch with friends outdoors made it feel like a real celebration. As part of our Exit Point for The Stories People Tell, we spent some quiet time enjoying stories from different cultures, linking back to the tales we’ve explored in our unit. We also had time for free painting, giving the children the chance to express some of the magical stories and adventures they’d imagined. It was lovely to see their creativity shine in such a relaxed, natural setting. This trip was the perfect way to wrap up a unit all about storytelling and imagination. We’re so proud of how the children represented our school, and we’re already looking forward to our next adventure together!
As part of our exciting Book Week, children in Milepost 1 took part in a range of engaging and creative activities to celebrate their love of reading.

Year 2 designed their own t-shirts featuring favourite book characters, showing off both creativity and personality. They also enjoyed reading sessions with pupils from other classes, building friendships and confidence through shared stories. Imaginative minds were hard at work illustrating their own tales, bringing new stories to life through art. To make their creations even more dynamic, they used IT tools to animate and narrate their stories—bringing the magic of books into the digital world! After reading several books from the Mr Men series, children discussed which Personal Learning Goals were being used and then designed and made their own PLG characters in the same style.
During Book Week, our Year 3 and 4 students immersed themselves in a range of engaging active reading activities...

The children enjoyed lively read-aloud sessions, where they explored new stories together and shared their thoughts. Watch out for the Book Choice Tournament finale! A highlight of the week was creating imaginative reading identity profiles, where students reflected on their reading habits and favourite genres. These profiles allowed them to celebrate their individuality as readers while inspiring one another. Of course, no Book Week would be complete without the ever-popular Book Character Costume Parade! The creativity and enthusiasm on display made it a memorable event for students and teachers alike.
Following their exciting Entry Point, Year 5 took part in a range of engaging activities for their Knowledge Harvest.

They played 'Quiz, Quiz, Trade', an active learning strategy that encouraged them to share prior knowledge and recognise any gaps in their understanding. Working in teams, they reconstructed a river puzzle, using critical dialogue to justify which features belonged in different parts of the river. In class discussions, the children explored the various uses of rivers and considered the advantages and impacts these have on human life.
This week, our Year 6 students have embraced roles as leaders, taking on important responsibilities which demonstrated a range of Personal Goals. Two exciting leadership opportunities have given them the chance to support others and grow their own skills at the same time.

One of these roles involved guiding our youngest students as they transitioned from the Early Years area to the main school playground. The Year 6 buddies were full of encouragement and understanding, helping the younger children feel safe and welcome. They showed empathy by noticing when someone needed extra help, worked together as a team, and used excellent communication to explain rules and reassure their new friends.
Another opportunity came during the school's Book Fair. Year 6 students were on hand to help manage the fair, and assist parents with purchasing books. It was a big job, but they rose to the challenge, showing resilience when things got busy, using their thinking skills to solve problems, and treating everyone with respect.
We are so proud of the leadership and maturity shown by our Year 6 students. They are wonderful role models and have made a real difference to our school community!
This week, our Student Council had the pleasure of hosting a guest speaker from Eco Friendly Packaging Oman (EFP Oman), a pioneering company dedicated to sustainability and innovation in our host country.
