Farewell Events
After 60 years of operation, the PDO School will officially close at the end of this current term. While this marks the end of a significant era for our community, we are committed to recognising the school's historical contribution and providing opportunities for students, staff and parents to gather before the closure.
We are currently planning two events for the end of the term. Please note that these are provisional dates provided as advanced notice; final details and formal invitations will follow.
Formal Commemoration Ceremony
Provisional Date: June 10th
Time: Starting at approximately 12:35 PM
Details: This formal event will recognise the school’s 60-year history and its impact on the community.
Attendees: Invitations will be extended to PDO senior management, Ministry of Education (MOE) officials, and parents.
Community Farewell and Choir Performance
Provisional Date: Sunday of the final week of term (28th of June)
Details: This event is designed to bring the entire school community together one last time during a busy final week.
The school choir will perform a selection of songs for parents.
Following the performance, families will join their respective "Mile Posts" to share food with teachers and students.
Recognising Our Staff
As we prepare for the school’s closure, we want to formally acknowledge the hard work and professionalism of our staff. Their support has been vital in maintaining a stable and positive learning environment for our students throughout this final year.
We look forward to welcoming you to these events to mark the school's legacy and say our collective goodbyes.
We are excited to continue sharing our Personal Goals Padlet platform in our weekly newsletter to celebrate achievements together as a wider community. Read more
We kindly ask for your support in capturing moments when your child demonstrates any of the Personal Learning Goals - whether at home, in the park, during outdoor play or in daily routines. For example, if your child shows collaboration while playing outside, you may upload one photo and select the appropriate Personal Goal folder (e.g., “Collaboration”).
Families are welcome to share one photo per week if they wish, highlighting a Personal Goal your child has demonstrated.
Please click on the Padlet link below to share your child’s achievement with our community. This is a wonderful opportunity for children to celebrate their out-of-school achievements and for us to reinforce that their Personal Learning Goals are transferable skills beyond the classroom.
Thank you for supporting the celebration of children’s achievements.

Book Week 2026 was a memorable celebration of reading, built around the inspiring theme: “Go all in: If you’re into it, read into it.”

Throughout the week, children explored books linked to their hobbies and interests, sparking enthusiasm and a deeper love of reading. The vibrant Book Café was a highlight, transforming reading into a shared, social experience, with breakfast sessions especially popular. Pupils took part in a range of engaging activities in their Mileposts, including a concertina hobby book in Milepost 1, teddy bear character profiles in Milepost 2 and genre workshops in Milepost 3. The parade gave children the chance to showcase their creativity, dressing as favourite characters or representing their interests, helping to foster reading for pleasure. Thank you to all parents for supporting your children during Book Week. Please take a look at some of the photographs from the week.
The Book Week team hope you enjoyed letting your imagination run away with you in the Book Cover Design competition.
The 6 winners whose designs are shown here, all received a 10 omr book token in assembly yesterday. The overall winner, "The Story that Escaped" has been made into a full story that can be read here:
Following the success of the Year 6 visit to RAH Library, children from Years 2 to 5 also had the opportunity to visit during Book Week. The aim was to further develop and strengthen our reading community whilst providing access to high quality texts. During their visits, the children took part in a range of engaging activities, including book scavenger hunts and book tasting sessions. They met the library staff, learned how to navigate the space, and quickly grew in confidence and enthusiasm within their library environment. We hope this experience will encourage many more children to use this fantastic facility with their families, helping us continue to build a strong and positive reading culture across the school. Please see the RAH Library flyer for further details.

The children have worked enthusiastically to prepare. They have looked at what makes a great party, written invitations to their favourite toy, collaborated beautifully with their friends to decide where and how to put the bunting up, and pumped up (and tested!) balloons to decorate the space. These wonderful activities spark curiosity, capturing their excitement and celebrating the start of this fun-filled learning journey together with friends, before the highlight of the pizza party!
This week in Milepost 1 the children in Year 2 became character hunters.

The children read the book 'The Cafe At The Edge of The Woods' following the book recommendation by Ms Caroline in Y2C during our book week assembly. They discussed the book and thought of the recipes that they could make if they were in charge of a cafe! Enthusiastically, they went on a character hunt to find the characters from the book based on clues hidden around MP1's corridor!
Year 4 have officially begun their exciting new 'Chocolate' IPC unit - a topic that has certainly been eagerly anticipated by the children!

Using our Personal Learning Goals of resilience, collaboration and thinking skills, Year 4 started the unit with an exciting escape room challenge as their Entry Point. Working in pairs and teams, the children tackled 10 chocolate-themed tasks including anagrams, code-breaking puzzles and mazes. They shared ideas effectively, solved problems collaboratively and showed great perseverance as they worked to unlock each level. Along the way, they also began to build key knowledge about chocolate, which will support their learning throughout the unit.
Following this, the children completed a Knowledge Harvest, sharing what they already knew and beginning to explore questions about chocolate. They then took part in a fun Willy Wonka-themed True or False quiz and an interactive Kahoot to test and challenge their existing understanding.
It has been a fantastic and engaging start to the unit and we are looking forward to continuing our exploration of the world of chocolate!
Year 5 have channelled their inner Master Chefs this week as we all hungrily started our new IPC topic, 'Bake it'.

Our intial task of crafting life-like chef hats encouraged endless collaboration and resilience. The highlight was watching children, who had mastered the technique, sharing their skills and understanding with others. A huge thanks to all of our parents for contributing so many delicious types of bread for our 'Bake it' tasting Entry Point. The children took their time to savour smells, textures and of course taste before voting on their favourites. We are all ready to learn more about the processes involved in the journey of food from farm to table.
A huge congratulations to our newest Learners of the Week! This award recognises the incredible effort they put into their learning and the excellent ways they are putting their personal goals into practice. It's fantastic to see them growing and becoming such dedicated and confident learners.
Children have the option of coming inside during relevant break times. If you would prefer that your child(ren) takes the option of inside play when available, please discuss this with your child.
Also it is essential that children continue to have their hats and water bottles in school everyday. You may also wish to apply sunscreen to your child before school.
