PDO School Newsletter

4th July 2019

Dear Parents,

I can hardly believe that I have been at PDO school a full year. The time has flown by! We have enjoyed a very successful year, filled with wonderful learning opportunities and pupil achievements, home and school working together in partnership, and the school community collaborating with such effective cohesion. The International Market Day was one of my favourite events and demonstrated the successful collaboration within our community, this was only one of the many great events I have experienced this year.

Farewell:

At the end of the school year we say farewell to our students leaving us for new schools around the world, and especially to our P7 pupils who will be transferring to their secondary schools. We wish these children great success in the next phase of their education and hope that the values and personal goals we have taught them at PDO School will stay with them for life.

We also say farewell to some of our teachers at the end of term -Ms. Lynsey & Mr. Neil(P6) Ms. Marleen & Ms. Joh(P5) Ms Charlotte (P4) Ms Ruth (P3) Ms Kathryn (P2) Ms. Sarah (P1) Ms. Karen (EAL) Ms. Anna-Maria(LS) Mr. John (Music) Ms. Catriona Ms. Arlene. We also say goodbye to some of our valued support staff, Ms. Jennifer, Ms. Denise, Ms. Karen, who have done a wonderful job and will be missed by staff and pupils. They are all embarking on new and exciting adventures . On behalf of the children, staff and parents we wish them happiness and success for the future.

Staff:

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our staff for their hard work and tremendous efforts throughout the year. The success of our children and our school is a direct result of the dedication, loyalty and commitment of our teachers and support staff. I offer my best wishes to you and your families over the long summer break .

PE Assembly

PE:

Another very exciting and busy year for PE at PDO School has passed. It has been great to see the improvement in all children's gross motor and sporting development. Aside from regular PE and swimming lessons, there were more PE related enrichment activities than ever before. The skills learned in these enrichment clubs have reinforced curriculum learning, as well as providing opportunity for the children to become more active, which in turn enhances learning within the classroom.

MPSL

MPSL proved to be a great success again this year! Representatives from PDO School attended 21 tournaments and clinics at various schools throughout Muscat. Each term, 30 children were invited to the very popular 'club', allowing the athletes to focus on developing skills for the upcoming event. Students enjoyed the camaraderie and competition and proved that PDO School was a force to be reckoned with!

Swimming

In partnership with BritSwim, amazing success has been achieved in the pool in Term 3. We were very fortunate to have Mr. Alex, Miss Innes and Miss Zoreh join our team for our weekly lessons and to continue to provide enrichment for our swim squad.

Mileage Club

1530km were run this year by the P4's and P6's in our break time Mileage Club! it has been amazing to see so many boys and girls come out to increase their fitness levels and earn 'feet' on their bracelets. P4 - Isla & Daksh and P6 - Gwen & Eli. were the children achieving the greatest distance. Congratulations to all the boys and girls who participated!

Inter House Competition

4 mini-tournaments were held this year - Basketball/Benchball, Athletics/Sports Day, T-Ball and Badminton. It was a very close race all year, with Red House coming out on top, narrowly beating the Blue team by only 3 points!

Playground Leaders

On behalf of all the staff and students of PDO School, I want to give a huge shout-out to the P7 boys and girls for their incredible year as Playground Leaders. This program has given the younger children great opportunities at break times to have fun, to learn and to enjoy more structured games at break time. It was also great opportunity for the P7's to take a mature leadership role. Thank you and congratulations for all your hard work!

All-in-all it has been a fantastic year in PE and we look forward to next years' athletes! Have a great summer. Keep fit & have fun.

Miss Jamie & Mr. Joe
