PDO School Newsletter

17th June 2021

Dear Parents

We are quickly approaching the end of the school year and the children are doing a fabulous job remaining engaged with their daily lessons. Well done to all the children at PDO School.

Teachers have now completed the End of Year Reports and will very soon be arranging Parent Consultation Meetings to discuss your child's learning. For those attending the P7 Graduation Parade, please avoid 3 30 - 4 pm appointment on 23rd June.

PDO VIRTUAL SPORTS DAY RESULTS

WELL DONE TO THE RED HOUSE AND A huge thank you to everyone who took part and we look forward to hosting this event in school next year in person!

Total Points

With over 825 entries our competition is now over. At one point it became very close between the Red and Yellow houses, with the Blue and Green houses having a last-minute push to make up the gap after trailing all week. However, as you can see it was the Red team that won overall with a huge points score. It has been great to see so many of you taking part and encouraging family members to join in the competition too. We hope to place a bit more emphasis on the house system next year with a range of events to encourage this friendly competition. Watch this space!

NEW HOUSE NAMES CHALLENGE

Here at PDO School each child is assigned a house on entry to the school. This house colour will remain with them throughout their time at PDO. Currently we have four houses named: Red, Blue, Green and Yellow which are also the colours associated with them.

At the moment we use the house system for internal sports competitions such as sports days and other inter house competitions. We would like to place a greater emphasis on these internal competitions and create some new names and badges for our teams.

When you are thinking of a name ask yourself the following questions:

- What does the name stand for or symbolize?

- Does it represent the house positively?

- Do the four names link together in some way?

- Does it have any link with the school or Oman? (This is not essential but something to think about.)

- Would you be proud of the name representing your house?

- Can you see yourself shouting and singing it at our sports events?

USE THIS GOOGLE FORM TO SUBMIT YOUR NEW HOUSE NAME IDEAS.

Have fun and be creative!

Challenge:

Create 4 new house names that could potentially be used to represent the four houses. The names should be semi related by their theme e.g. famous people names, places, animals etc. I have added a few examples below; there are many more to be found on the internet.

Once we have selected four new names we may then move on to create logos to fit with the names. However, if you would like to upload some designs to go with your named entries you can via the link on the google form.

Ministry of Education

The Ministry of Education has given PDO School permission to invite our new children and families onto the premises for admissions purposes. We will be contacting all our new families to arrange an appropriate time for them to look at the learning environment. We will try to schedule this before the end of the school year.

School Tour & Meet your New Teacher

To help new children learn more about PDO School and all children to learn a little about their new teachers, we have created a virtual tour of the school and introductory messages from the teachers telling you a little about themselves. Please have a look at:

PTA

It's been a much quieter year than usual for our PTA, but we wanted to let all children know we've been thinking of them all along. Children from P2-P7 will have received a special bookmark in their learning/report packs this week, as a small present for a job well done this academic year.

Leavers

At this time of year, we begin planning to say farewell to all those leaving PDO School. Our P7 children will transfer to high school and a good number of children will return to their home countries, others will be moving on to start a brand new adventure. I am sure they will take lots of memories with them and we wish them well for the future.

We also say farewell to a number of teachers: Ms Robyn, Ms Rola, Ms Michelle, Ms Anna, Ms Gillian, Mr Laurence and Ms Margaret. Thank you for your wonderful contribution to the learning at PDO School. You will have influenced the lives of many of our young people and planted seeds that will grow forever. Our best wishes also go to LSAs Ms Shervin and Ms Yamini, who leave us after many years of wonderful support of the learning and children of PDO School. They will be missed! All the leaving staff will be here until the end of term, giving children and parents an opportunity to say goodbye.

In the new academic year, we will welcome Mr Tom, Ms Hayley, Ms Jeanine, Ms Eimear, Ms Dagmo. I know you will make them feel welcome.
