  13th March 2024

Dear Parents,

HSSE is at the forefront of our minds at all times, our aim is to keep our whole community safe; over the last month our teachers and LSAs have taken part in a 2 day First Aid course. All of our teaching staff have now completed the training and several of our administration staff also completed the training. The training has also been extended to the students and you can see several of our students below taking part as representatives in the Student Council .

Last Thursday was an incredibly busy day in school. We started with a  PTA movie event in the morning. The talent show took place after lunch, we have so many talented students in school. Thanks to all the students and parents who were involved in the event. And to finish off the week we had a very successful  PTA movie night, thanks to all the community members that were involved with all the events in school on Thursday; another busy day of learning at PDO school.

Road Safety

Car Seat Safety

Ensuring the safety of all our children in car seats is our top priority. Aiden sets a great example by securely fitting and wearing his car seat. Let's continue our efforts to keep all children safe and protected on the road with properly fitted car seats and seatbelts.

Want to know more about how to keep your child safe?

Please read the attached document and watch the video on car seat efficiency to find out more.

Early Years

This week, Nursery embarked on an adventure, creating moonrocks! After collecting special rocks outside, the children  worked together to sort and paint them, adding a touch of space magic to our classroom tuff tray. This activity sparked curiosity and teamwork, igniting a passion for discovery!

Milepost 1

In Milepost 1 this week, the children enjoyed exploring our new noticeboard in our corridor. The noticeboard has announcements of PDO school events, staff/student achievements, International events, and also a birthday wall. We are aiming to increase the children's awareness of what is happening in school or around the world, allow them to say Happy Birthday to a friend or a teacher, and celebrate someone's achievement. Thanushree from Y2H presented confidently to her friends about her last achievement which we were proud to announce in our new display.

Milepost 2

This week we took some time to explore the vast range of strategies we can use for addition and subtraction. The children worked in groups to model a full range of strategies to answer maths questions. We are feeling confident and excited to share these with you, our parents, during next week's Maths Workshop. We hope to see you there, check out the bottom of the newsletter for dates and times for all Mileposts!

Milepost 3

This week, the children from Reception joined in with playtime in the main school playground as part of their transition into Year 1. In order to support this big step, some children from Milepost 3 were on hand to act as buddies. The buddies were able to show the younger children around the different areas of the playground and help them explore the play equipment available. It was amazing to see our Milepost 3 children being so supportive and understanding, showcasing a range of Personal Learning Goals.

Student Council

During our Safety Course with Dr. Malek, the student council delved into discussions about the importance of healthy habits in preventing illness. Dr. Malek emphasised the crucial principle of prioritising personal safety and well-being in all situations.

One key aspect of the session was learning how to effectively call for help in different scenarios. Dr. Malek ensured that every member of the council is now familiar with the emergency number, which is 9999.

Let's all keep these valuable lessons in mind as we strive to maintain a safe and healthy environment within our school community.

Talent Show

Last week, our school community came together to celebrate an array of talents at our eagerly anticipated Talent Show. It was an afternoon where PDO School students showcased their skills and passions in front of an enthusiastic audience. This event was not just a platform for performance but also a meaningful integration of the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) learning goals, emphasizing personal qualities such as resilience, communication, and thoughtfulness.

The afternoon was a showcase of incredible talent, with performances that spanned a wide range of artistic expressions. Our talented students took the stage with acts that included:

After much deliberation amongst the judges, our Milepost winners were announced:

Early Years/Milepost 1 Winner: Dia (singing)

Milepost 2 Winner: Sebastien (contemporary dance)

Milepost 3 Winner:  Ria (traditional dance)

Congratulations to all our performers for an unforgettable evening of talent and creativity. A special thank you to the PTA for helping behind the scenes as well as the popcorn treats for the audience!

Fun with Flags

Congratulations to our 'Name the Flag' challenge winners! As part of our International Learning Day, we had over 100 flags for the children to explore. Our aspiring vexillologists demonstrated the breadth of their knowledge by correctly identifying the countries the flags belonged to. I hope you enjoy your well deserved prizes.

News from the PTA

What’s Popping in the PTA…

We are thrilled to share the success of our recent PTA-hosted movie night! Last Thursday, we had the pleasure of hosting two fantastic movie screenings: one for the Early Years (EY) students and another for students in Years 1-6. The EY students had a delightful time watching episodes of Bluey while enjoying popcorn. Each child also received a special goodie bag to take home, adding to the excitement of the day.

Later, 96 other children joined us for the screening of Migration. They were treated to delicious pizza and popcorn while enjoying the movie. The atmosphere was buzzing with laughter and joy throughout the evening. Our tuck shop was a hit as always, with many attendees shopping and contributing to our fundraising efforts. We're thrilled to announce that the money earned from the tuck shop will be put towards future PTA events, including the much-anticipated Quiz Night and Staff Appreciation.

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the volunteers who dedicated their time and effort to make these events possible. Your support truly makes a difference, and we couldn't have done it without you. Whether you helped with popping popcorn, supervision, or simply attended the event, your contribution is deeply appreciated. Together, we are building a vibrant and supportive community at PDO, and we look forward to creating more memorable experiences for our students and families in the future.

Thank you once again for your continued support.
