School  Newsletter

  6th March 2024

Dear Parents,

As we reflect on a successful  International Day, we would like to thank all the adults who helped to make the event such a success. We received so many positive comments from parents about the whole day and the learning focused concept behind the whole day. We will all have taken something away from the day; for the children we will have helped to open their eyes a little wider and help them to see the world that exists outside of Oman. The opportunities that exist in an International School are unique . We are indeed fortunate to live and be part of a rich, diverse international community where we can live and learn together and see things that we would never observe in our base countries.

This was the first time that we have run this type of event, I want to recognize so many parents who worked for several hours behind the scenes, painting and providing some genuine real energy to to the whole day. The net result is an outstanding learning experience for children, which was always our focus. As a school we will continue to move forward with positive parent  support. This was a perfect example of what can be achieved when we all work together for the same positive outcomes. I was personally delighted to see parents wanting to make such a positive difference to our school.

Parking in School

Can we please request that all parents park in designated parking spaces in school . We have recently had a report of a car parking on a crossing place, this is a non compliant action.  Many thanks, your support is appreciated.

Early Years

We had an amazing time celebrating International Day with lots of fun activities! From exploring different cultural traditions to playing games and dancing, our little ones really got into the spirit of the day. It was wonderful to see them embrace diversity so enthusiastically.

A big thank you to all the parents who joined and helped us for this special occasion!

Car safety

Securing children in properly fitting seat belts, car seats and booster seats is essential to keep them safe during car rides. Car seats and booster seats help position the seatbelt correctly over a child's body, reducing the risk of injury in case of sudden stops or accidents. By using car seats, we ensure that children are adequately protected and can travel safely wherever they go.

Children should use a child seat until they are 12 years old or 135 centimetres tall, whichever comes first. Children aged 12 or older, or taller than 135 centimetres, may use an adult seat belt or an appropriate child restraint, although it is safer to use a booster seat to 150 centimetres tall.

Milepost 1

In Maths, children in Year 2 are learning all about multiplication and division. First, children used pictorial representations and this week they have been using concrete equipment to help them solve problems. This is a challenging concept but all the children showed great resilience in this important skill.

Milepost 2

Our International Day was a whirlwind of cultural exploration and joy as we embarked on a journey 'Around the World in 80 Minutes'. From a flag challenge to an international-themed Kahoot quiz, and immersive exploration stations spanning continents, the day was a vibrant tapestry of learning and fun. Children crafted Maasai collars in Africa, painted famous landmarks in Europe, danced in South America and much more! Additionally, Milepost 2 enjoyed a flavorful feast showcasing delicacies from around the globe. We extend our thanks to parents for their contributions and enthusiastic attendance, making this day truly special.

Milepost 3

In our Express Yourself unit, Milepost 3 have been reflecting on how to take care of our own wellbeing, and the wellbeing of others. We learned vocabularly to help us in situations where we might witness unkindness and what we could do to safely intervene to support others. Year 5 looked into staying safe online and what they should do if people were being unkind on the Internet. Influenced by the text 'Wonder', Year 6 created helpful guides to 'Surviving Middle School' which will support their own transition at the end of this year. They also addressed the issue of bullying and created information posters with helpful hints.

News from the Music Room

In Music we have been very busy this term.

Children have worked well in their extracurricular activities such as keyboards, recorders, guitars and ukeleles.  The Choir also had a chance to perform on International Day. They did a fantastic job!

The Music Curriculum will continue during the Holy Month of Ramadan but will be sensitive to the needs of those fasting.

Dress-code during Ramadan

As we prepare for the upcoming holy month of Ramadan, PDO School reaffirms its commitment to fostering a culturally supportive environment for all members of our community, particularly those who will be observing Ramadan. During this sacred time, it is imperative that we honor and respect the traditions and beliefs of our community members. To that end, we kindly ask for everyone's cooperation in adhering to a conservative dress code while on school premises.

For the ladies, we kindly request that you ensure that your shoulders and knees are covered. Additionally, please ensure that your necklines are not too low and that your clothing is loose-fitting.

Gentlemen, we kindly ask that you wear full-length trousers during this time.

Furthermore, we kindly remind all adults to refrain from eating or drinking in front of fasting individuals during Ramadan as a sign of respect.

Thank you in advance for your support and understanding. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out.
