Update: Regional Events and School Operations
I am writing to share a brief update on how we are managing the school’s operations in light of recent regional events.
A Collaborative Approach
Please be reassured that our school does not make unilateral decisions regarding school closure.
Any decisions we take are made in close discussion with PDO and the Ministry of Education (MoE). This collaborative approach ensures that our actions are always aligned with official guidance and official policy, rather than being decided in isolation.
A Calm, Consistent Environment
Our primary goal remains to keep the school day running as normally as possible and therefore we are continuing with our usual timetable and activities. Children respond best when they have familiar routines. We believe that maintaining a calm, consistent environment is the best way to support our students and staff.
Contingency Planning
While we are committed to staying open, we must also be prepared for all scenarios. Should we be advised to move to online learning, please be aware of the following:
Transition Period:
As you can imagine, shifting to a digital platform needs our normal practice to be adjusted. If we receive notice to move online in the early morning or late at night, we will let our parents know via Seesaw. Learning will then begin at 0900 on the first day of online learning to allow staff the necessary time to set up and adjust their normal weekly plans.
On the first day, we will take a differentiated approach to the online model across the school which best meets the needs of the children’s year group and developmental stage. This will be adapted as children become more used to the online format if we remain online for a longer duration.
Our Preference: We would all much prefer to be in school, teaching face-to-face; we will only move online if instructed to do so.
Home Learning Pack:
In case we go online, we wish to be as prepared as possible. A home learning pack of resources will be sent home tomorrow to help support the online learning.
In short, we are staying well-informed through the proper channels and remain committed to "business as usual" for as long as possible.
We will, of course, keep you updated should our partners advise any significant changes.
Today, the children attended a special assembly where they were introduced to our Personal Goals Padlet platform. They learned how we will be using it to celebrate achievements together as a wider community.
We kindly ask for your support in capturing moments when your child demonstrates any of the Personal Learning Goals - whether at home, in the park, during outside play or in daily routines. For example, if your child shows collaboration while playing outside, you may upload one photo and select the appropriate Personal Goal folder (e.g. “Collaboration”).
Families are welcome to share one photo per week if they wish, showing a Personal Goal their child has demonstrated.
Please click on the Padlet link below to share your child’s achievement with our community. This is a wonderful opportunity for children to celebrate their out-of-school achievements and for us to reinforce that their Personal Learning Goals are transferable skills beyond the classroom.
Thank you for supporting the celebration of children’s achievements.
The IC Team
We were delighted to welcome author, poet and storyteller Clive Piggott to our online lessons this week. Clive truly demonstrated our PLG of being adaptable as he delivered two engaging live video sessions for children from Y1–Y6. It was fantastic to see around 150 children join and to enjoy his lively stories and songs together.
His books Unicorn in the Playground and Jurassic Cove will be available to purchase for 5 OMR from the main reception between 0800 and 2pm on tomorrow. Although the book signing was unable to take place, Clive has kindly offered to provide a signed sticker for any parents who would like one.
Our Toy Shop is still open and busy with excited shoppers and shopkeepers!
The children are now using their writing skills to create labels and captions around our classroom.

As part of our Toy Shop learning, the children are choosing their favourite toy and writing a label for it.
They are beginning to write simple captions to describe different areas of our classroom.
We are encouraging them to listen carefully to sounds and write independently with growing confidence.
This gives real purpose to their writing and helps them see themselves as authors.
You can support at home by inviting your child to label their toys or write a short caption about something special in their room.
As our Greenfingers unit comes to a close in Year 2, we have been exploring how our wonderings have helped us to uncover new learning.

Before the half-term break Year 2 were given some sunflower seeds in a pot by Ms. Naomi and Year 3. We talked about what plants would need to grow bigger and stronger and started to care for our sunflowers. When the seedlings were big enough we found a nice spot in the school garden and planted them out. We measured how tall our plants were and recorded the measurements in our books. After the holidays we checked in to see if our plants had grown taller! We were all very surprised to see how much our plants had grown! We even noticed that our plants face different directions, at different times of the day.
Ms. Liz and Year 2 Angel Fish had so much fun learning more about Position and Direction in Maths this week. Whole turns, half turns, left, right, forwards, backwards... Which direction will our learning take next?!
This week in our ‘Adventurers and Explorers’ IPC unit, Year 4 have been putting their Maths skills into action by learning how to plot the journeys of famous explorers using coordinates.

The children began by identifying the different parts of a grid and practising how to plot points accurately. They then applied these coordinate skills to maps, bringing historical journeys to life. Next, we explored how to translate points on a map by following specific instructions. To make this even more active, the class created a giant grid game, where they became the points themselves and moved around the grid by following step-by-step directions from each other.
It was wonderful to see the children collaborating, solving problems and using their Maths skills in a fun and practical way, just like real-life explorers!
It was fantastic to welcome children’s author Clive Piggott for a live video session with our students.

There was a wonderful buzz about books across MP3 as the children listened attentively while Clive’s incredibly expressive storytelling brought his ideas and characters to life. Many of our students were excited to make connections with fictional characters he mentioned, including Sherlock Holmes, as well as with some of the books we are currently enjoying in class. Moments like this are a powerful reminder of how inspiring authors can be in nurturing a love of reading, and it was fantastic to see such enthusiasm for stories and storytelling. Long may this excitement for books continue!
A huge congratulations to our newest Learners of the Week! This award recognises the incredible effort they put into their learning and the excellent ways they are putting their personal goals into practice. It's fantastic to see them growing and becoming such dedicated and confident learners.
