5th January 2023

Dear Parents

It is lovely to welcome all our families back to PDO School for 2023, Happy New Year!

We hope you have had a restful holiday. The children had a wonderful surprise upon their return to school this week to view the amazing murals that have been put up around the school building, please see the stunning pictures below.

It has also been exciting to welcome many new families into our community this week from Early Years upto Year 6. We are sure that you will settle into Beautiful Oman and enjoy all that the school and the country has to offer.

Please note that the school will be closed next Thursday January 12th, due to a Public Holiday to celebrate the Sultan's Accession.

In order to view the Class Pages for more detailed information about your child's learning this week and any class notices, please click the link here .

Early Years - Jungle Scene

Children, parents and teachers were amazed to find the new jungle scene on the doors and windows that lead to our outside area. The images are stunning to look at and they are already promoting lots of talk amongst the children. As well as improving the aesthetics of the building, the area will also be used as a stimulus for a range of learning experiences.

Phase 2 - Map of Oman

Meanwhile, keep your eyes peeled in the learning Souk for our new Oman map highlighting lots of beautiful locations across the country. Have you been to any of them? Please send any photos of you and your family visiting any of these beautiful places in Oman to notices@pdoschool.com for us to show in our newsletter.

Science

The science room has had an amazing New Year makeover! A fantastic mural of the planets in our solar system now adorns the glass windows. This will be a great resource when we are studying our Science unit about The Solar System. If you would like to find out more about the solar system click this link

Year 2 - Chronological Recounts

In year 2, we were so excited to be back in school and share our amazing adventures over the winter break. We began this term by writing a chronological recount. It was amazing to hear the holiday stories. Some of us went to different countries and some of us stayed in Muscat. What is clear from our recounts is that we all had a truly wonderful break.

Make sure you test us on what 'chronological' means.

Year 6 - The Lost Magician

Year 6 were very excited to continue their English text 'The Lost Magician'. We have been using our reading skills to discuss the story and answer a range of questions. We have also expanded our vocabulary by searching for unfamiliar words in the dictionary.

In chapter 12, we encountered the Green Man and discussed the origins of this mythical character. Keep you eyes peeled for some Green Man inspired art work in the coming weeks.

Term 2 Enrichment Programme

The Term 2 Enrichment booklet will be sent to parents early next week and includes over 500 places for PDO children to participate in extracurricular activities each week. Thank you to all the teachers who have volunteered their time.

To save unnecessary confusion and missed opportunities for your children, please read the booklet carefully. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to get in touch. I will endeavour to respond to you as quickly as I can.

Lunch time and early morning enrichment will commence January 8th.

After school enrichment will commence the week beginning January 15th.

Out of School Achievements

Victorious Vincent

Well done to Vincent who is in Y3L. During the winter break Vincent completed the Kid's Spartan Race which consisted of a 1 mile run and 8 obstacles. He also "earned" the Spartan Kids medal. Vincent said he had to be very resilient and cooperative to achieve this amazing goal.

Well done Vincent we are very proud of your efforts!

Miss Liz

We request that parents who have plans to move away from Oman, to please provide us with the details as soon as possible by emailing Ms Cheryl, cfox@pdoschool.com or Ms Kath, kmorgan@pdoschool.com . Parental Concerns:

At PDO School we acknowledge that, from time to time, parents may wish to express concerns about specific aspects of their child’s education. We are always happy to investigate and respond to these concerns. Please note that, for the Class Teachers, it is important that even informal discussions take place outside of their teaching time.

What do I do if I have a concern?

Please make the Class Teacher your first point of contact if your concern is not successfully resolved, please contact the school via notices@pdoschool.com to make an appointment with the Headteacher, Cheryl Fox, or the Deputy Headteacher, Ms. Kath Morgan.

Mr. Hamed, our School Manager, is also happy to listen to any parental concerns that have not been resolved successfully.
