As we near the end of second week, routines are becoming established and a flurry of activities have started. This week we have seen: swimming classes start, student council elections, a choir performance and staff receiving training on play therapy. It has been a busy week and our new staff and students are becoming more settled in routines. In the next few weeks the ECAs will start as well as our Tuesday afternoon activities.
Please see below the notice on meeting your child's teacher, this is an important meeting in understanding how your child has settled into school, it is important to highlight that this is a 2 way conversation and we also want to understand how your child has settled into school from your perspective.
Road Safety - Another reminder for all parents who drive on to the school site that we all need to follow speed limits and to ensure that parking happens in the designated areas. Can we also request that parents continue to use designated crossing places on the school site. I know many of you are careful and drive with great care, many thanks to you all for supporting the school.
The school will be closed on Sunday for a public holiday, we will reopen on Monday morning as normal.

Our Nursery children have been settling in beautifully this week! They are enjoying new routines, making new friends and exploring both our new and familiar spaces. With lots of play and happy moments everywhere, it’s been a truly lovely start to the year!

We have restyled our learning provision in the corridor to embed learning opportunities through play. It is wonderful to see the creative thinking taking place and the conversations the children are having amongst themselves and how this thinking translates into their learning in the classroom. In Year 2, the children have been looking at different ways to represent number and making predictions using picture clues. They have looked at synonyms for emotions and feelings in preparation for our upcoming IPC unit.
Year 3 and 4 students are discovering the true meaning of friendship as they dive into the IPC unit ‘What Are Friends For’. Through group activities and shared goals, they’re learning how to collaborate, communicate, and support one another.

New challenges like solving problems together or navigating disagreements are helping them grow stronger bonds. It is lovely to see laughter, empathy, and encouragement are becoming part of their daily routine. As they face unfamiliar tasks, they’re learning that friendship means showing up for each other. Together, they’re building a classroom, Milepost and wider community where everyone belongs.
This week, we cast a spotlight on morning reading time in Milepost 3 and the range of activities available from 7:40am.

From 7:40 every morning, children who arrive at school a little early are able to take advantage of extra reading time. In Milepost 3, children benefit from reading to their teacher, their LSA or a member of the ANT team. Children can also spend time reading independently or with their peers. They even have opportunities to use technology to develop their reading skills and build their vocabulary.
With 20 minutes of extra reading time on offer every day, those children who arrive at school at 7:40 will benefit from 13 hours of additional reading before the first half term break in October.
What a wonderful start to music in Reception class. For their first time in the main music room, they were able to experiment and have fun with many of the instruments in the classroom.
Carrying on from a fantastic start to the year last week on tamboo bamboos, Year 3 continued with the impressive work using three different sets of instruments to create simple polyrhythms.
After just one rehearsal, over 40 children from our PDO School Choir gave a wonderful performance in assembly. There are lots more performances planned over the coming months, including the return of Thursday morning informal concerts by the end of September or early October. More details will follow but if any children are interested in joining, don't hesitate to come and see me.
Mr Gary
As always, it's wonderful to see lots of learning objectives and PLGs being achieved!
