School Newsletter

22nd September 2022

Dear Parents

Thank you to everyone who has come to school in the last two weeks to take part in the Family Learning Sessions. The teachers have received much positive feedback about the lessons and we have greatly enjoyed having parents in the school to share in the children's learning journey. For those who were not able to make it into school for the sessions, we are pleased to let you know that next term we once again be offering these shared learning experiences, and of course this term we also have the IPC Exit Points to look forward to as well. (Please see Dates for your Diary at the end of this newsletter for your child's IPC Exit Point.)

Phase 2 - Family Learning Sessions

During these past two weeks, we have welcomed families across the school into classrooms, participating in Maths and English sessions.

And as one parent commented, "This has been a lovely experience to be in the classroom, especially after Covid, to see how the children are learning.

Phase 1 Computing Lessons

Over the last few weeks, Year 1 and 2 have been practising their mouse and typing skills using a range of fun activities and games.

A firm favourite for improving mouse skills was Dragon Drop. The children used their mice to navigate dragons to their food without bumping into the walls, obstacles or enemies.

Another favourite amongst the children to improve keyboard skills was Dance Mat Typing. This fun and engaging course instructs the children how to position their fingers correctly and progressively teaches the children how to touch type.

This week, Year 1 have been learning about technology , how to identify it and how it can help us in our daily lives.

Year 2 has been learning about the uses and features of information technology. We discussed the similarities and differences in a variety of devices and in our think, pair, share session we thought of lots of ways we use computers, such as watching videos, communicating with friends and family, drawing, listening to music and much more.

We then sorted objects according to whether they were examples of information technology or not.

How do you travel to school?

As part of our current IPC topic , Transport, this week Year 2 have been learning all about statistical analysis.

The children surveyed Years 5 and 6 to find out how they travel to school, they then worked together in groups to collate and present their findings.

Parental Concerns:

At PDO School we acknowledge that, from time to time, parents may wish to express concerns about specific aspects of their child’s education. We are always happy to investigate and respond to these concerns. Please note that, for the Class Teachers, it is important that even informal discussions take place outside of their teaching time.

What do I do if I have a concern?

Please make the Class Teacher your first point of contact if your concern is not successfully resolved, please contact the school via notices@pdoschool.com to make an appointment with the Headteacher, Cheryl Fox, or the Deputy Headteacher, Ms. Kath Morgan.

Mr. Hamed, our School Manager, is also happy to listen to any parental concerns that have not been resolved successfully.

Wishing you a pleasant weekend
