As part of the STEM Unit’s vision to transform Arkansas to lead the nation in student-focused and career-minded science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education, the state mathematics team supports the development of numerate students who reason and problem-solve with mathematics. Quantitative reasoning, or numeracy, is the ability to use numbers and solve problems in real life and is a critical skill to function in 21st-century society. A strong foundation in mathematics is the center of STEM education and provides a way to describe and reason about models of real-world phenomena.
