Ideas for Personalized Competency-Based

Learning With Canvas

Level-appropriate assignments and content using curriculum content

Many of our online curriculums have grade level content, reteaching activities, and extension activities. Using Mastery Paths can be a way to make sure that students get the assignments that are right for them!

Quick choice in Modules

Simply use text headers and emojis within modules to give students choice! Here are some tips:

  • Put emojis at the END of assignment/discussion titles so there aren't syncing issues

  • This doesn't automatically "excuse" students from the assignments they DON'T choose. You'll need to go into the grade book and mark the non-selected items excused or it will look like an unsubmitted assignment. It won't affect their grade, but might bother the student (or parent!!)

Requirements in Modules

You can add requirements to items within your modules. Students can't move on to the next module until they accomplish your set requirement. One of the requirements is "Score at least", so you can set it up so that students will need to show mastery before moving on to following modules!

  • Modules --> Click on three dots in the top right corner of the Module --> Edit --> Add Requirements
