In 1993, Judge Diana LaViolette, Circuit Court Judge of Putnam County, saw the need for a strong CASA Program to help the at-risk and neglected children appearing in her courtroom, and she appointed the first part-time CASA director with funding through her court budget.
During the next five years, the CASA Program experienced a revolving door of part-time directors working with a limited budget and a handful of volunteers.
In 1996, under the umbrella of the Putnam County Youth Development Commission (PCYDC), the PCYDC CASA Program was established.
Under the PCYDC, the CASA Program has grown into a stable organization with a full-time director and a consistent number of well-trained community volunteers.
