Behind the Scenes: At The Morning Announcements

By: Zachary Minter

The Morning Announcements. You might have seen them, probably one of your teachers put it up on their classroom screen. You've seen them after they've written the script, filmed and edited, but what about the Morning Announcements behind the scenes.

We have

Finn Fastre: The Director of the Morning announcements

E Romero: Anchor

Jackson Smith: Cameraman

Tom Glassman: Weatherman

Reed Murray: Cameraman

First of all, the script and filming. The script is usually written up before filming and it is gone over a few times before filming. It usually is in the same format, but as Tom Glassman, the weatherman there says "You know though, weather changes every week." But, lets talk about their filming process. A phone is usually used to film the morning announcements. It's not all filmed in one take, but rather in multiple clips to put together in postproduction. In fact, E Romero, one of the anchors at the morning announcements told me that the group usually messes up so they have to film more.

Editing! All the clips that were filmed earlier are put together in (insert movie editing software here) Then transitions and other effects are added. The script is actually used in the postproduction process as a reference to what they filmed and how they should edit.

Below is also a short interview with the members of the announcments.

Q and A

Q: Do you guys ever mess up?

A: A lot, mostly in production. Words get stumbled over and whatnot, but actually we are better now than earlier in the year.

Q: Are roles ever switched?

A: Not really, Tom has always been the weatherman, actually, Jackson used to be the anchor but things arent really switched up all that much

Q: How did you guys get into doing this?

A: We mainly volunteered for this and our respective jobs.

Q: How much do you really like doing this?

A: A lot, it's really fun for us, all of it.

Behind the scenes, the Morning Announcements looks really fun and cool to do. And on the surface, you get to learn about what is going on in the community and at the school.

Sundance

By: Montana Burack

It happens every year

School ends earlier, bus lineups change, and students at the high school have to go the extra mile to get on the bus in the afternoon. Not only that, but the influx of people coming into town causes traffic, shows down the buses, fills up parking lots, and makes the town more crowded, and that's only some of the problems.

But on the other end, Sundance is the biggest film festival in the US. It brings money, merch, activities, and both the big and small celebrities. You might just encounter them on Main Street or on your afternoon commute. But Sundance also helps small filmmakers get big. Many actors and directors became famous after Sundance.

Sundance may be a major inconvenience for locals. But as the town transforms for Sundance, putting up signs for parking, renting out more city buses, and screening movies, we should consider that it might be worth it. A lot of money is gained from Sundance, from the tourists staying at hotels, eating at restaurants, and of course, skiing and watching movies. So buckle up for the traffic, enjoy the shorter school days, and hope to see some of the many celebrities in town.

Choose Your Side

There are two topics, choose one, and argue why you picked what you picked.

Is a Hotdog a Sandwich?

Is a hotdog a sandwich?

This question, despite its ridiculousness, it is very much debated. Here are what Treasure kids think.

So, is a hotdog a sandwich?

Yes No

It is between bread. That’s a sandwich!

-Wesley Sergent (8th Grade)

No. It’s not a sandwich in between two pieces

of bread, a roll is not two pieces of bread.

Also, you don’t put ketchup on a sandwich.

-Max Turner

The bread is connected but sandwiches are not.

-James Bush

Its a hotdog, not a sandwich.

That’s why it is called a hot dog.

-Marcellus White

It has a hotdog and bread, its a sandwich.

-Alex Bison

There is bread, meat, and sauce. Its a

sandwich.

-Theo Pokorny

It’s not because a hot dog bun is a bread bowl

-Solomon Garcia

A hot dog is not a sandwich. Its a taco.

It is one piece of bread. Not a sandwich.

-Cooper Branding

You don’t just say tuna fish if its a sandwich you

call it a tuna fish sandwich. When you say hot dog,

everyone just knows that it’s with a roll.

It also does not have openings all around.

-Maya Drayton

No, why? I don't know. It depends on your definition of a sandwich. But probably not because hot dogs aren't food

-Steven Heise

Hot dogs aren't sandwiches in fact they're more like tacos

Only in the context of wet and dry in the world

-Steven Heise

No, water makes something wet

-Carly Klein

No, because if you pour water on water, it doesn't make water wet, it only makes more water.

The definition of water is being with other water molecules and if you remove a water molecule you still have water

-Alex O'Brien
