Applied Mathematical Concepts

This senior level math course standards provide a balance of conceptual understand, procedural fluency, and application of mathematical concepts, assisting students toward becoming mathematically proficient. Students gain understanding and critical thinking skills that are necessary to be truly college and career ready. The course allows students to connect prior knowledge to new ideas and concepts. Students are provided opportunities to justify both informal strategies and commonly used procedures through distributed practice. Computational and procedural fluency expectations are addressed throughout the standards. Students develop a repertoire of procedures for computation and learn efficient strategies to determine whether the solution(s) makes sense. It is aligned to the ACT college- and career- readiness standards and contains content from Discrete and Finite Math. Topics include counting, combinatorics, probability, financial math, and linear programming.
