Capshaw Elementary

Welcome

Hi! My name is Janna Shope and I am the school counselor at Capshaw Elementary School. This is my 4th year as an elementary school counselor here. I have a Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree , and Specialist in Education Degree with an emphasis in School Counseling - all from Tennessee Tech. I have taught all ages from preschool all the way through high school, but I sure do love these elementary kiddos! I look forward to meeting and getting to know each and every one of our families here at Capshaw! Feel free to contact me anytime at janna.shope@pcsstn.com.

Mission: The mission of the Capshaw Elementary School Counseling Department is to help students be invested in their own learning, be encouraged to practice positive peer relations, and to be respectful, responsible and ready. We are here to advocate for an environment that supports high achievement for all students and decreases barriers to learning. The comprehensive school counseling program will maximize student potential and enable all students to experience educational and life-long success by providing preventative and responsive services in the areas of academic, career and personal-social development.

What does this mean for your child? This means that I pay close attention to every student in the building and how he/she 'connects' to his/her education and therefore achieves to the maximum level possible. I support your child and all school stakeholders to creatively problem-solve any issues that may (temporarily or otherwise) pose an obstacle to the learning process and your child's academic achievement.

Vision: The vision of the Capshaw Elementary School counseling program is that all students realize their self worth so as to motivate them to become active life-long learners. The problem solving and social skills they learn will help them become conscientious members of the community.

Beliefs:

· All students are important.

· All students have dignity and worth.

· All students needs (ethnic, cultural) are respected in the implementation of a counseling plan.

· All students can learn.
