Purpose
TEAM, TEAM, TEAM- Being a team, a “family” that supports each other and operates as a cohesive unit is the main goal of every season. In addition, our goals as a coaching staff are fundamentals, focus, and fun (developing a love for the game).
ZERO TOLERANCE FOR HARASSMENT. Harassment will result in an investigation and potential removal from the team.
WE ARE CO-ED! Our goal is to get as many players as possible to grow the Platte Canyon high school football program!
Depending on the number of players, we will have two teams that will play competitively. Most schools that we play only have one team/”A” team (the most competitive team consisting of experienced players) while others may have two teams, “A” and “B” (the developmental team consisting of less experienced players who will play a less competitive schedule). We try to get as many "B" games as possible but they will likely be limited. The "B" squad may get opportunities to play with the "A" squad and will focus on learning the fundamentals of the game. It is always our intention to get the players as many reps as possible, however, we do not guarantee playing time and coaches will determine who plays when and where based on effort, attitude and ability.
FMS players are students first and athletes second.
Eligibility requirements are:
Athletes are required to behave in a manner that reflects well on the team. Any major misbehavior on or off the field could result in disciplinary action up to and including removal from the team.
Students maintain a 70% or above in all enrolled classes during a competitive season.
A grade below 70% will place the individual on ACADEMIC WARNING for one week giving the student an opportunity to raise their grade and remain eligible for the following week.
A second consecutive grade below 70% and/or lack of sufficient progress in an online course will place the individual on ACADEMIC INELIGIBILITY for a minimum of one week (Tuesday to Tuesday).
Each student with a failing grade will be required to stay after with the teacher until 3:15 or go in for lunch and recess each day until the grade is back above 70%. It is the students responsibility to arrange this with their teacher prior to practice.
Once ineligible, the participant may continue to practice, but no sanctioned competition will be allowed.
If a player is ineligible for three consecutive weeks (warning and two weeks of ineligible suspension), the player will be removed from the team to focus on their school work. Middle school sports can be very difficult for some students in terms of balancing their school work and athletics, but the players are students first and athletes second, so grades always come first.
