What is Title ?

Title 1 is the largest federal aid program for schools serving Elementary and Secondary schools each year. Through Title I, the Federal government provides money to states, which in turn provide money to school districts based on percentages of low-income student statistics.

The goal of Title 1 is to provide assistance to students who need additional instruction or practice in order to be successful in school.

Who can participate in Title 1?

Students are referred to Title by their classroom teacher. Teachers assess a student's need through a referral process, which involves evaluation by his or her classroom teacher, grades, classroom based performance, checklists, and statewide testing. Students may enter or exit the program anytime during the school year.
