Module 2- Implementation at PPES

1. Read this:

Every school has a different approach to PBIS because every school has a unique makeup of students and staff. Even given similar demographics, everyone in a community is likely to have their own set of life experiences that uniquely shape their attitudes and abilities. Elements that remain in most PBIS systems include:

A few basic principles from which all other "rules" or procedures follow. These are meant to be easily understood by everyone, especially students. At Parley's, we have chosen (drumroll...) BE SAFE, BE RESPONSIBLE, and BE RESPECTFUL.

Clear and teachable expectations for behavior that apply the basic rules to every area of the school, from the hallways, to the lunchroom, to the playground.

2. What about consequences? Read this.

3. Activity Options (pick at least least one):

Create a vision board of your ideal classroom. Clip out and paste pictures or articles that help you envision the environment and quality of relationships that you would like to see. (Powerful extension: have your students do the same.)
Role play using precision commands, being caught in a coercion cycle (and breaking it), and encouraging positive behavior.
Write a journal entry (or how about a video recording?) reflecting on what you've learned so far. Include your questions, doubts, and concerns. Include your hopes and dreams!

4. Extra Credit

Join a professional learning network for PBIS resources and discussion. These can include facebook groups, blogs, forums, or any other gathering place of like-minded professionals looking to network and improve their skills.
