Due March 1, 2026!
Posters on display at PC Library from March 2-March 25!
Car idling in a school carpool line can be harmful to the health of young people.
Let's keep our mountain air clean!
Encourage students, families, and staff to
turn the key and be idle-free.
Say no to idling in the carpool line at our schools!
To spread awareness about idling, join us this February by participating in the Idle-Free Poster Contest! More info below.
Idling cars during school pick-up and drop-off times negatively impact outdoor air quality. Every minute an engine idles, it impacts our children’s health. Idling vehicles release emissions that harm air quality and pose a serious risk to our community—especially to children, whose developing lungs are more vulnerable to air pollution.
Park City has a No Idling Ordinance No. 9-10-1, which states, "No driver, while operating a vehicle within Park City corporate limits, shall cause or permit a vehicle’s engine to idle for more than one minute, with exceptions.." See exceptions HERE.
Idling vehicles turn pick-up zones at schools into pollution "hot spots" of concentrated exhaust.
Air pollutants released from idling vehicles are particularly harmful to children, whose faster breathing and developing lungs make them more vulnerable.
Reducing idling at Park City's schools is a simple but effective way to improve air quality and protect children's health.

To minimize your idling, try alternative modes of transportation to school such as walking, biking, roller-skating, using the bus or carpooling. See the map links below to find safe routes to school! Stay tuned for more information on Bike-To-School days in May!
There will be an elementary and secondary poster contest! All 4 elementary schools will participate in the elementary poster contest. PCHS and EHMS will participate in the secondary poster contest.
Create a fun, clever, or funny marketing message that is connected to a clean air ACTION like:
Be idle-free, turn the key!
Keep our air clean!
Don't be a part of the pollution, be a part of the solution.
Ensure your message is in line with accurate air quality science.
Use original artwork or photography only — no copyrighted photos, memes, or images off the Internet, and no AI-generated images. Funny parodies of pop culture and movies are welcome. For example, “Stop idling, or Idle be back for you!” is a great reference to the popular Terminator movie, but you can’t use an actual photo of the actor, Arnold Schwarzenegger. Rather, you need to create your own photo or artwork.
Size: No bigger than 11x17. If you submit your artwork on paper, it should be on poster paper.
We highly encourage assistance from teachers; the final submission must be the original work of the student.
Talk to your families and friends about your messages and ideas!
Once again, remember-NO AI-generated images. We will be checking.
Fill out the Google Form below with your name, grade, school, and upload a photo of your poster. If your poster is on paper or poster board, turn into the front office at your school for pick-up. Artwork will be posted at the Park City Library from March 2 to March 25!
If you have trouble uploading your poster, please email your poster and info to lengland@pcschools.us
