Rooted in Hindu religious practices that began somewhere around 1500 to 1000 BC, the Chakras (the Sanskrit word for "wheel") refer to what people believe to be spinning disks of energy that should stay “open” and aligned, as they correspond to bundles of nerves, major organs, and areas of our energetic body that affect our emotional and physical well-being. There are 7 main chakra that run the length of one's spine and each has a corresponding number, color and purpose.
1. Root
Color: Red
Location: Base of the spine

The root chakra Is the chakra of grounding, physical Identity, feelings of survival, belonging and basic needs.
2. Sacral
Color: Orange
Location: Below the belly button
Element: Water
The sacral chakra Is the chakra of sexuality, creativity, intuitiveness, self-worth, compassion, and adaptability.
3. Solar Plexus
Color: Yellow
Location: Upper abdomen
Element: Fire
The solar plexus chakra Is the chakra of self esteem, ego, aggression and and anger.
4. Heart
Color: Green
Location: Center of the chest
Element: Air
The heart chakra Is the chakra that connects the higher chakras with the lower ones. It is tied to compassion, trust, passion, and love for self and others.
5. Throat
Color: Blue
Location: Throat
Element: Ether
The throat chakra is the chakra of communication, self expression and confidence

Location: Between the eyes; also known as the "brow" chakra
