Our program currently accepts three residents per year. All applicants must apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service for Applicants (ERAS).
Our program has been granted Osteopathic Recognition from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

Salary and Benefits
Salaries are dependent upon the postgraduate year (PGY) of training. The salary scale for the 2024-2025 academic year is as follows:
PGY-1: $64,375
PGY-2: $66,435
PGY-3: $67,465
PGY-4: $68,325
PGY-5 and higher: $71,534
Interns, residents, fellows and their families receive Blue Cross and Blue Shield or HMO health insurance—including major medical, prescription and dental health coverage—during the contract year. Additional benefits include:

$255 per year book allotment fund
20 days paid time off

Residents are provided an annual $250 educational stipend to utilize on books and other educational-related activities.
Additionally, residents are provided with surgical loupes during their residency training. Funding for interns and senior residents to complete BLS/ACLS/ATLS training is also offered.
Meetings at which residents have presentations (poster, oral, other) are partially to fully funded, including registration fees, transportation, a daily stipend, and room and board.
A choice of two white coats or one program jacket is provided by the program annually

Osteopathic medicine takes a "whole person" approach, treating the entire individual rather than just symptoms, with an emphasis on preventive care to help patients adopt healthier lifestyles. Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (DOs) are fully licensed physicians who, like MDs, can prescribe medication and perform surgery nationwide. However, DOs bring a holistic focus to care and often serve as primary care physicians, especially in small towns and rural areas where they care for families and communities.

Research
Research is an important mission and a strong tradition in the Department of Otolaryngology– Head and Neck Surgery at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Biannual research reviews where an attending personally reviews current and past work to help guide residents with their research efforts.
Multiple professional societies exist in the Philadelphia area regarding Rhinology, Laryngology, Plastic Surgery, Pediatrics, and many other subspecialties that we encourage our residents to attend based on their interests.
We also recognize that within the pursuit of innovation and the advancement of otolaryngology, no one is an island. Therefore, many of our PCOM residents continue to successfully collaborate with nearby colleagues (Temple, Jefferson and Drexel, etc) on a regular basis.
