About Me

Hi, I'm Mr. West and I am the STEM teacher at PCM High School. I teach classes that  introduce 21st century technological skills to students in high-demand areas such as coding, gaming, engineering, robotics, and media.  This is my eighth year teaching. I have a BSE in Mathematics, and am endorsed in both math and STEM in the State of Iowa. I have taught STEM and math to students from elementary through high school, both in Iowa and Nebraska. Before teaching, I was a structural engineer for 15 years, where I designed and managed bridge and other structural projects.

My philosophy of teaching is centered around student learning. I believe students need to be engaged in a variety of activities that challenge them to learn and grow. The concept of STEM fits this well because it is often hands-on and challenges the learner to use available resources and be creative in solving a problem. Learning to collaborate with a team and explain/present your solution to others are also vital skills we will be learning in our classes.
