MUSTANG MATHLETES
ALGEBRA II
ALGEBRA II
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Students in Algebra II formalize and extend the mathematics they learned in Algebra I and apply these mathematical concepts to real-world problems. Students will extend their work with quadratic and exponential functions and advance their understanding of function families to include polynomial, rational, and logarithmic functions. One of the critical aspects of this course is the modeling process that will make the learning experience more relevant and impactful..
UNITS:
Unit 1: Sequences & Functions Unit 2: Polynomials & Rational Functions
Unit 3: Complex Numbers & Rational Exponents Unit 4: Exponential Functions & Equations
Unit 5: Transformations of Functions Unit 6: Trigonometric Functions Unit 7: Statistical Inferences
REQUIRED MATERIALS:
Students must come to class every day with their Chromebook (charged), notebook, and a pencil. Calculators are available for them to use, but if they have their own, that is highly encouraged to use.
EXPECTATIONS:
Students will be in their seats when the bell rings, ready to begin class.
Students will bring the required materials and appropriate assignments to class every day.
Students will be respectful of their peers, their environment, themselves, and their teacher.
Students will put their best effort into each assignment and task.
Students will ask questions when they do not understand something.
GOOGLE CLASSROOM:
On Google Classroom, you will be able to find all important assignments, rubrics, and announcements for class. If you ever have any questions about when something is due or what the assignment is, check Google Classroom first. I would like to see Google Classroom used as a way to get help on homework. Students have the ability to post questions they might have and other students, or myself, are welcome to respond.
TECHNOLOGY:
Cell phones and Chromebooks are not to be used during class unless permission is given. If cell phones are out during class at inappropriate times, they will be taken by myself and the student will be able to pick it up at the end of the school day.
GRADING:
Homework - Must either be ready to turn in via paper copy or uploaded to Google Classroom each day before class begins. Homework will be graded on completeness.
There will be a public speaking component each quarter that will also go under homework as well. Students will be required to go to the board throughout the quarter, 1-3 times to show work and explain their thinking behind their process.
Common Formative Assessment (CFA) - Includes anything I collect that is not put into the grade book. These are used to check understanding and help determine how we spend our time in class.
Summative Assessment (Test/Projects) - A summative assessment will happen at the end of each unit.
Accountability - This category is designed to reflect whether or not a student has turned in assignments or projects for a course by the specific deadline.
Accountability = 10% of grade
Homework = 10% of grade
CFAs = 25% of grade
SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENTS(Tests/Projects) = 55% of grade
LATE WORK:
Homework can be turned in at any time up until the end of the quarter. If homework is not turned in by the end of the quarter, then it will be marked as a zero. If projects are late, students will be required to come to my room before school/after school until it is finished. If you turn in late work, you can still receive full credit on the assignment, but you will not receive your accountability point.
RETAKES:
All Summative Assessments and CFAs are eligible for retakes up to two weeks from the date the Test/CFA have been returned to the students. In order to retake something, students must thoroughly complete the problems/sections that they have missed on a separate sheet of paper. They also have to have all their homework completed from that Unit. Once the problems have been corrected accurately and homework is turned in, students will have one opportunity to complete similar problems to the ones they missed for up to 100% credit back.
UPDATES:
If this syllabus needs to be updated for any reason, students will be notified of the update in class and an announcement will be posted on Google Classroom.
