I'm Miss Petersen, a 6th year Agriculture & Science teacher and FFA Advisor. This is my third year at PCM. I am currently offering 6 agriculture courses. On this website you will find information about each of the classes along with the Diamond Trail FFA Chapter.
Classes Offered
This agriculture course will give students a foundational knowledge of animal science. This includes; various animal breeds, terminology, management practices, and more. Students will also have an opportunity to learn about various FFA contests such as Vet Science and Livestock Judging. Learn more about my Animal Production here. This course will cover the topic areas of soil science, agronomy, horticulture, and greenhouse management. This introductory course touches on the topics of animal science, plant science, Ag. power and tech, natural resources, and Ag. leadership. you will begin your official SAE project, and take advantage of the FFA opportunities. This agriculture course will give students an opportunity to learn important communication and leadership skills. They will have an opportunity to create real world projects to apply these skills. In this course students will learn the anatomy and physiology related to nutrition, reproduction, health, management of domesticated small & large animals. They will determine nutritional requirements, learn about animal genetics and reproduction. The student will identify parasites and diseases, recognize animal management techniques, calculate correct dosages, and discuss current topics in animal science. I grew up on a diversified family farm south of Knoxville, IA. My family raises sheep, cattle, and goats along with rows crops and hay. I graduated from Melcher-Dallas High School. I earned a bachelor's of science degree in Agricultural and Life Sciences Education with a minor in Entrepreneurial Studies from Iowa State University. I have an adorable 5 year old corgi named Forest. Throughout teaching I have taught a variety of agriculture courses from: Animal Science, Agronomy, Welding, Ag Mechanics, Greenhouse Management, Horticulture, Ag Leadership, Ag Business, Natural Resources, Ag Entrepreneurship, Vet Science, Advanced Animal Science, and Intro to Ag.
When I'm not teaching I enjoy raising show lambs, spending time with my nieces and nephews and running my photography business.
