After years of research and collecting feedback from our community, Plymouth-Canton Community Schools is now implementing an agreed-upon list of skills and characteristics it pledges to deliver to every district student before they graduate. It’s called the Learner Profile.
The P-CCS Board of Education and administration recently adopted the P-CCS Dynamic Plan 2021-27, which is the district’s roadmap to continuous improvement. The Learner Profile embodies the skills and characteristics that our community collaboratively determined are vital for P-CCS students to build throughout their educational journey with the district.
The Learner Profile emerged from a multi-year collaboration gathering input from a diverse group of stakeholders, including students, Board of Education members, district- and building-level administrators and staff, families, and community members. This work was developed in partnership with Dell Technologies and Advanced Learning Partnerships which have nationally-recognized expertise in this area.
The overarching skills and characteristics in the Learner Profile, with accompanying ‘I Can’ statements created directly by our students, are:
Collaborator: I know my strengths and see strength in others.
Ethical and Global Citizen: I study, question, and contribute to the diverse community and world.
Critical Thinker: I reflect, synthesize, and apply learning to new situations.
Goal Directed & Resilient: I know, advocate for, and share my best self with others.
Communicator: I listen and contribute to the thinking and ideas of others.
Innovator: I learn with curiosity, purpose, and adventure.
“The P-CCS Learner Profile is a transformational work that continues our promise to be the premier school district that our students and community expect and deserve,” said Dr. Monica L. Merritt, P-CCS Superintendent of Schools. “Our students will develop into capable and involved citizens, and through this Dynamic Plan we will work passionately every day to ensure that student achievement remains high for all students at P-CCS.”
Developing and implementing a clear and concise system for delivering the Learner Profile into district, building, and classroom practices is the key to success, and P-CCS has begun the continuous process of developing and implementing lessons to meet the goals of the Learner Profile.
