Dear PCC students and community,
The purpose of this liquid syllabus is to establish a first impression of the course, the plan for the term, and meet your humble guide, Magali Sánchez. The nitty gritty of the course will be available on PCC D2L. Let's get started!
Catalog Statement: Introduces using a college library in person and through the library website. Includes developing basic research skills for college. Provides an opportunity to practice skills using computer applications and online tools to find information, keep track of it, and give credit for using other people's ideas. Audit available.
Student Learning Outcomes:
Locate key services and resources within a college library’s physical and online environments.
Use appropriate library resources and services to meet information needs and interests.
Select and keep track of useful information while learning about a topic.
Our LIB 100 in-person course is a 10 week course.
Our in-person classroom includes lectures, videos, individual and small group activities, presentations by students and staff/faculty outside the library, silent sustained reading.
Course activities may include;
Individually or in small groups, use the library catalog to locate relevant books, ebooks and films and create a list on a topic. Share it with the class
Evaluate a library database for scope, content and quality
Identify gaps in library resources or services and describe how they could be improved.

How long is the class? LIB 100- Spring 2026 is an 10 week, in-person course.
How many hours a week? Our course is 1 credit and we are required to complete 10-12 hours of instruction plus a minimum of 20 hours of out-of-class work.
What is “no show”? During the first week of the term, instructors must identify students who are enrolled but not engaged in a class. These are referred to as "No Show" students and will be dropped from the class as per PCC's G302 Grading Guidelines policy.
How do I avoid being dropped from the class? In order to avoid being dropped as a "No Show" student, you must complete the following activities by their deadlines:
Participating in the online discussion posted in Week 1
you must attend the first day of class if you do not want to be marked as a no-show, which will drop you from the class. If there is some reason you cannot make it, you must email me before the class to let me know why.
Are classes in-person? Yes. This class is in-person. No zoom sessions.
What is my responsibility for week 1? The class will be published and available on (date). In our D2L course, under content, Class 1, you will find our first set of activities.
Is there a required textbook? No. There is no required textbook for this course. All materials will be provided in class or posted in our D2L course.
Do I need a laptop? This is an in-person class, the classroom provides access to a computer. Students can bring their own device.

My origin story begins in California and leads me to obtain my B.A in Ethnic Studies (Oregon State University) and M.A. of Information Library Sciences (University of Arizona).
I've worked in all types of libraries, from academic, to public and elementary schools. My passion lies in increasing library access to all, particularly marginalized communities.
My goals are to know as much as I can and attend as many concerts possible.
