This class uses a workshop setting to teach fiction writing. What is a workshop setting? It's where you and your classmates share your work. And you talk about it, too. It's a lot of fun!
One of the most important lessons to learn with creativity is how to share your work and how to talk to others about their work and your own work. Writing is often solitary, but it's also collaborative and reciprocal. This class is a space to learn how to write independently and inhabit shared space.
In a typical class, you can expect any of the following:
Free write to a prompt and/or reflection
Small group discussion on assigned readings, then big group knowledge sharing
Small group workshops
Volunteers are always invited to read aloud
Write some more
Throw a break somewhere in the middle
Main assignments:
A workshop story up 4,000 words
Weekly exercises
A portfolio
