A selection of "Architecture Comics" that discuss the characteristics of the International Style in relation to the work of Eileen Gray to inform our reading of Eileen Gray: A House Under the Sun by Charlotte Malterre-Barthes and Zosia Dzierżawska-Bojanowska.
The following are examples of visual annotations and "signature style" reflection comics on the life and work of Eileen Gray to conclude our reading of Eileen Gray: A House Under the Sun by Charlotte Malterre-Barthes and Zosia Dzierżawska-Bojanowska.
Thanks to the creators, Nick Sousanis, and Scott McCloud for the inspiration 🎉
As we reach MIDTERMS and begin our reading of Days of Sand by Aimée de Jongh, the ART217 cohort is exploring documenting their own life in the comix medium! Here is a selection of the "diary" or "slice-of-life" comics:
In learning about the Dust Bowl of the 1920s-1930s, ART217 created "Dust Bowl" comics that provides contextual information to coincide with our reading of Days of Sand by Aimée de Jongh.
Wrapping up the Spring Term, we learned about the life and work of Yayoi Kusama in the context of "Graphic Medicine." To inform our work, we watched the documentary Kusama - Infinity , read Kusama: The Graphic Novel by Elisa Macellari, and selected chapters of the Graphic Medicine Manifesto.
The term concluded by the class creating their own "graphic adaptations" in the mini-comic form! Students selected an artist/historic figure/artwork of their choosing and developed an 8-page narrative ok in the mini/quarter-fold comic format. Click through the following selections to see more!
