Meet an ESOL Level 2 Student!

Level 2

The ESOL Ambassador interviewed Gwangsu Ki, an ESOL level 2 student and YouTuber. Gwangsu says:

Hi, I’m from Seoul, South Korea. I came to study at PCC because when I came to Portland twice before on business trips, I met my girlfriend. I missed her so much I took a break from work and decided to come here. Since I’m staying here for almost three months, my girlfriend said, “You should study English.” I liked her idea and I decided to come to PCC. My girlfriend’s house is very close from PCC. My YouTube channel is about my trips to Japan, Thailand, Taiwan and Hong Kong. Also my daily life in Korea, playing games with my friends and how I’m spending times in U.S. right now. My favorite video is “Snow Storm Story”. It shows the snow storm in February 2024 in Portland.

Special Family Members

My Sister

My favorite person is my sister.  She is the second to be born.  She is 32 years old.  She lives in Guatemala. She is my favorite because growing up I have lived most of my life with her.  She has supported me in everything.  She has never left me alone and I see her more than a sister.  I see her almost like my second mother.  I love her very much and first of all God, one day we will see each other again.

The Family I Left Behind

It’s hard for me to say who is my favorite family member.  I have two photos.  One has my three daughters (their names are Thelma, Monica and Ana Gabriela), and the other my youngest son.  My youngest son is Camilo and I have not seen him since 2021, that is, two years and three months.  Due to the dangerous political situation in my country, he had to seek asylum in Holland.  He was a swimmer for my country’s national team.  He completed his second year of Industrial Engineering at the university but he had to leave everything, including his mother.

He is 21 years old, he speaks English and Dutch.  In Holland, he is studying for his pre-Bachelor’s.  Since high school he told me that he wanted to study film.  I hope it is possible.  I  was banished from my country and now live alone in Portland.

 I Really, Really Miss You

I have two homes.  My first home is my birthplace and my second home is my husband’s home.  I have a father, a mother and four siblings.  I have three sisters, two oldest sisters and one youngest sister.  My oldest sister is married.  My family is small and beautiful.  Each member supports each other in happiness and sorrow.

My father is my hero and friend.  He lives in Nepal.  His favorite food is Nepali Rice Pudding. He works in social services.  My other favorite person is my mother.  My mother is a housewife and she too is my best friend.  My mother’s name is Sarmila  and my father’s name is Bharat.  My father’s age is 56 years old and my mother’s age is 45.  I really, really miss my two favorite people.

A mother is a very special and important person for every child.  In fact, she is the most precious gift for anyone.  We love each other very much.  Love you, daddy and mummy…and I really, really miss you.
