DropZone Privacy Policy
Effective Date: 2025-09-08
1. Overview
DropZone is a Chrome extension that lets you capture files, links, current page URLs, and plain-text notes directly from your browser into your own Google Drive and Google Sheet. This policy explains what data DropZone collects, how it is used, and how it is protected.
2. Data Collection & Use
DropZone only accesses data that you explicitly provide or authorize:
- Files you upload or drop into the panel → stored in a DropZone folder in your Google Drive.
- Links you enter or capture (including current page) → logged in a Google Sheet in your Drive.
- Quick notes and descriptions you enter → stored in your Google Sheet.
- Metadata (timestamps, titles, file sizes, URLs) to display in the extension panel.
- User profile information (name, email, profile picture) → used temporarily for authentication and UI display, not stored permanently.
DropZone does not collect browsing history, nor does it monitor activity outside of the items you choose to send.
3. Storage & Sharing
All data is stored only in your Google Drive and Sheets. DropZone stores OAuth access tokens locally in Chrome storage for API access, but clears all stored data when you sign out. DropZone does not store data on any external server.
You control sharing: if you share Drive or Sheets content, that occurs solely via standard Google functionality.
4. Permissions & Limited Use Compliance
DropZone requests these permissions:
- Google Drive (drive.file, drive.readonly) – to create and manage items it uploads (your files and the log sheet).
- Google Sheets (spreadsheets) – to log metadata into your sheet.
- Google Identity (userinfo.email, userinfo.profile) – to authenticate using your Google account and display your profile information.
- Chrome Storage (storage) – to store OAuth tokens and extension settings locally.
- Chrome Tabs (tabs) – to capture current page URL and title when you click "Capture current page".
- Chrome Side Panel (sidePanel) – to display the extension interface.
- Chrome Active Tab (activeTab) – to access current tab information for page capture.
- Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com, fonts.gstatic.com) – to load extension fonts.
- Google Profile Images (lh3.googleusercontent.com) – to display your profile picture.
DropZone's data usage is limited to the single purpose you expect: capturing and organizing your content. It does not use your data for advertising, nor does it transfer your data elsewhere. No human reads your content, and there's no hidden tracking. This aligns with Google's limited use policy.
5. Privacy-by-Design & Minimization
DropZone follows privacy by default: it collects nothing unless you decide to save something.
All features and data collection are driven by user action.
No retention beyond what you capture.
Quick note body limited to 20,000 characters, descriptions to 10,000 characters for performance and practical use.
6. Your Control & Rights
You can manage or stop DropZone's access at any point:
- Visit your Google Account's Permissions page to revoke DropZone's access.
- Remove DropZone extension from Chrome to cease operation immediately.
- Delete the DropZone folder or sheet in your Drive to erase all data created by the extension.
- Sign out from DropZone to clear all locally stored tokens and profile data.
7. Compliance with Laws
Works with GDPR, CalOPPA, CCPA–style rights:
- You control collection and access.
- You can delete data at any time by removing content in Drive or uninstalling.
- DropZone does not sell data or share it with third parties.
8. Changes to This Policy
