What is a CIF?

Crew Information Files (CIFs) are notices of important information for all personnel conducting operations in lieu of official policy letters, operating instructions, or regulations. These CIFs document best practices or other important information that needs to be conveyed to operations personnel.

Who are they for?

CIFs can be applicable to all Aircrew, Ground Teams, or Mission Base personnel and the applicability is noted in the file name and header of the CIF.

How long do they apply?

CIF’s typically expire 90 days after issuance unless otherwise incorporated into a formal policy letter or regulation. However, some CIF’s may be issued indefinitely if it addresses a procedure or issue that is enduring or unresolved.

Who can publish CIFs?

CIFs are generally issued by members of Stan/Eval and approved by the Director of Stan/Eval or Director of Operations. CIF’s may be issued by other Operations Staff personnel but are still approved by the DOV or DO. CIF’s can also be issued at the group level however only apply to the group in which it was issued.
