According to Chapter 4 of Title 22, PA Virtual is required to provide a Career Education through the school counselor's program. Students will participate in activities which will help them understand how their personal traits, skills, and abilities may relate to potential career choices. They will have opportunities to investigate careers of interest and learn about careers that are new to them. The knowledge gained will help guide them in their academic choices. The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) will be monitoring the percentage of students who demonstrate meaningful engagement in career exploration and preparation and implementation of individualized career plans through separate, specific measures based on grade-level benchmarks aligned to the Pennsylvania Career Education and Work standards.
Required documentation must include student portfolios and/or graded student artifacts resulting from classroom instruction and records of student data. PDE Monitors may request to see lesson plans/curriculum, K-12 guidance plans, agendas from events aligned to Career Education and Work standards, scoring guides/rubrics, and/or other applicable evidence to support the reported data. Each year students will add two artifacts to his or her individual portfolios demonstrating an understanding of career awareness and preparation, career acquisition, career retention and advancement, and entrepreneurship.
