Meet the Instructor

Dave Dein began his career in the trucking industry in 1988 as a way to financially support himself through college at CSU Stanislaus. With a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, he was hired by a large manufacturing company as a driver/manager. Here he developed a successful career, logging over 700,000 accident/ticket-free miles.

Feeling a call to education, Mr. Dein joined the PJUSD as an elementary teacher in the Fall of 1999. Feeling compelled to do more for individuals marginalized by society, he founded a tuition-free, non-profit truck driving school called Faith Logistics, where he would spend his summers off from teaching in Patterson to train rehabilitated prison inmates how to drive commercial trucks, while also providing them job placement assistance. Mr. Dein continued his twofold passion for 10 years until changes in emission regulations forced the dissolution of his organization.

With a love for teaching and a passion for trucking, Mr. Dein is now the Commercial Driving License (CDL) instructor and coordinator for Adult Education, and starting Fall 2017, at the High School Logistics Center. This Truck Driving Program is one of the first in the nation to offer such training to high school students. His vision of the Logistics Program is more than just providing skills and knowledge for students to earn their CDL; its about providing students with a comprehensive look into an industry that is constantly exploring new and future technologies, such as hydrogen and electric powertrains and autonomous trucks, and actively investing effort into those whom are integral participants in the future of transportation industry.

Mr. Dein is a member of the National Association of Publicly Funded Truck Driving Schools, California Trucking Association, and Women in Trucking. In support of his Patterson efforts and passion in the industry, he has established the Faith Logistics College Scholarship Fund through the Patterson Recognizing Individuals Determined to Excel (P.R.I.D.E) organization. This scholarship is available to students who graduate from the truck driving program and want to continue their education in a transportation related field of study. In 2014 he was nominated for Stanislaus County Teacher of the Year. The shared philosophy, support, and the freedom to be creative by coming up with proactive solutions is what has allowed Mr. Dein to invest in PJUSD for 20 years.
