Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) is an approach to supporting students to be successful in schools. PBIS was developed from research in the fields or behavior theory and effective instruction. PBIS supports all students through intervention ranging from a school-wide PBIS focused on the development and implementation of proactive procedures and practices to prevent problem behavior for all students and improve school climate.
The purpose of the intervention system is help promote positive behavior and acknowledge students who are showing expected behaviors. Students who are improving and making progress in their behaviors are also recognized for their effort .
PBIS is a 3-Tiered program and currently PHS is focusing on Tier 1 and Tier 2
When implemented correctly, PBIS practices have been proven to:
increase academic performance
increase expected behaviors
decrease problem behaviors
help establish a positive school culture
