Dual Language Overview
Dual Language Overview
Dual language is a form of bilingual education in which students are taught literacy and content in two languages.
In Passaic, we follow a one-way immersion program that allows our native Spanish speaking students to receive instruction and be assessed in two languages over an extended period.

Dual Language Model
* "One-Way Immersion Program"
The goal of a 50/50 dual language model is to provide an equitable bilingual education that promotes proficiency in both English and Spanish.
Half of the instruction is provided in English and half is provided in the Spanish language.
It is designed to help students achieve biliteracy and bilingualism in English and in Spanish while mastering subject-matter skills.

*The One-Way Immersion Program serves Multilingual students.
**The Two-Way Immersion Program serves both Multilingual and native English Speakers.
Note: Although Passaic follows a one-way immersion program, some native English speakers have been permitted to join a dual-language classroom with prior approval.
