Project Gutenberg is a volunteer effort to digitize and archive numerous cultural works, to "encourage the creation and distribution of eBooks". The project was founded in 1971 by American writer Michael S. Hart and is the oldest digital library in the world. Most of the items in its collection are full texts of books in the public domain that are copyright-free.
Open Library is an online project intended to create "one web page for every book ever published". It has been funded in part by grants from the California State Library and the Kahle/Austin Foundation. Open Library provides free, open online access to many public domain and out-of-print books.. This is a wonderful resource for students and staff!
