Getting to Know Me
Hello! My name is Laura Nelson. I am a licensed clinical social worker with a small private practice and also work as a school social worker at Port Allegany School District. In the school setting, I provide services to students in grades K-12, mentor peers, and offer training opportunities in areas such as trauma, suicide prevention, and school safety. I am passionate about meeting the needs of children and helping others to understand the impact of mental health and trauma on student behaviors and academic performance. Prior to transitioning to social work in the school setting, I worked as a clinical social worker, providing outpatient services to children, adolescents, and adults. I also evaluated children to assess their needs for more intensive services and to provide treatment recommendations for service providers. I received my bachelor's in psychology from Clarion University of PA and my master's in social work from the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. Additionally, I attended Penn State World Campus to obtain certification in ABA. I reside with my husband and three children in Port Allegany, PA. I enjoy taking photographs, reading, doing puzzles, and being in nature.
