What is a school social worker?
The school social worker is a licensed mental health professional who addresses the social, emotional, and behavioral needs of students. They help bring families, students, and the school together to support student success. The role of the social worker is important in identifying and addressing barriers to learning, including mental health challenges, family and relational issues, and social concerns. School social workers provide individual and group counseling, connect students with resources, and advocate for students' needs. They promote the development of positive social skills. They collaborate with and support school staff and families. They provide crisis intervention services.
