Social-Emotional Learning Strategies for PK-12 Students and Teachers

Julie Wright is a teacher of first grade at Gloucester Township Elementary School in Blackwood, New Jersey. She has enjoyed serving the children and families of this community for 20 years. During that time, Julie earned her MS in Elementary Reading and Literacy from Walden University along with certifications in Reading and Supervision at Rowan University. Julie is currently working toward earning her doctorate degree in Early Childhood Education. Her love of teaching extends to professional development within the district and around the state as a New Jersey County Teacher of the Year and Achievement Coach. Julie also enjoys hosting pre-service teachers as they prepare to enter the teaching profession.

Peggy Stewart is an Education Consultant working with educators, schools and organizations around the nation and at home in NJ. Stewart is a learning consultant for FEA (Foundation for Educational Administration) and is a Learning Partner for Principals through the NJ Department of Education. Stewart also currently works with the Center for Curriculum Redesign helping prepare facilitators to lead professional learning courses.

Stewart was a high school social studies teacher in Sussex County specializing in Global Education. Stewart was named New Jersey State Teacher of the Year, awarded the Princeton University Distinguished Secondary School Teacher, was a Yale University Senior Fellow in the PIER program, and received the United States-Eurasia Award for Excellence in Teaching.

Stewart was a member of the Consortium that developed the Teacher Leader Model Standards and led the development of the National Network of State Teachers of the Year (NNSTOY)"Teachers Leading" professional learning courses that she facilitated with educators around the nation.

She currently serves on the Board of Trustees for Learning Forward NJ.

Argine Safari is passionate about transforming the lives of her students through the power of music and global connections. At Pascack Valley High School, she developed a nationally recognized vocal program, traveling with her groups nationally from Washington, D.C. to Los Angeles, CA and internationally to Canada and Ireland. Argine is active as a clinician and chamber musician, having performed at Carnegie Hall, Madison Square Garden, and Zankel Hall. In 2013, Argine co-founded a non-profit youth theater arts company, Stage Scene and Song Performing Arts, with a mission to transform and empower its participant through the arts. Prior to Pascack Valley, Argine shared her gifts with the Grammy award-winning Brooklyn Youth Chorus. Argine is the 2010 Princeton University Distinguished Scholar, 2017 New Jersey State Teacher of the Year, the 2017 Evangelina Menendez Trailblazer, NEA Foundation 2018 Teaching Excellence Award recipient, 2018 Lowell Milken Fellow, the NJEA 2018 Arts Educator of the Year, and the recipient of the 2019 Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching. Argine’s article on innovative teaching was published in Moscow in 2019. In May 2020, she was featured in Dr. Bilha Fish’s book Invincible Women: Conversations with 21 Inspiring and Successful American Immigrants.
