Americanization – the process of diffusing the American culture into foreign-born residents.
Americanization movement began in the 1910s and focused on integrating and assimilating aliens (primarily American Indians) by teaching them English and instructing them in the workings of American democracy. Many believed this would give them the opportunities that they may not otherwise have had.
The Americanization Movement was highly pushed throughout the educational system with teachers trained on how to help Americanize foreign-born students while they are in the public education system.
