These worksheets are to be used by teachers as part of the onboarding for new students and students who have not yet set up their own passwords.
Teachers may use ClassLink to create a temporary password for students to change on first log in.
It is recommended that each student have a unique password that is easy for students to remember (and type) and difficult for others to guess. If students are all using the same password or one that is based on a pattern that is easy for others to figure out, it makes their accounts vulnerable.
All student usernames are a combination of their initials and ID number. John Wayne 0123456 would be: jw0123456
Elementary (PK-4th) - Password Worksheet (Includes QuickCard Instructions)
New students using QuickCards MUST have their network password set WITHOUT THE QUICKCARD before it will connect to Wi-Fi on Chromebooks. Students in grades PK-4 have access to ClassLink QuickCards that will sign them into Chromebooks and into ClassLink on Windows devices. If students are using Windows devices, they will use their network password to log into the device.
All students in PK will be new and many others will not remember theirs from the previous year, so teachers will be helping all their students learn their username and set up passwords.
What should the password be?
The passwords will need to be complex with at least eight characters and use a capital letter, lowercase letter, and number. Teachers have the option of assigning passwords to students by setting them up themselves, helping students, or telling parents what to use. Once a student has logged in with the generated password and changed the password, the student will be able to use the QuickCards to log in after first time.
Middle School (5th-6th) - Password Worksheet (Includes setting up recovery questions)
Intermediate School (7th-8th) - Password Worksheet
High School (9th-12th) - Password Worksheet
Middle School is when the password recovery options become required. If they are new or have never set up their responses, they will be prompted upon first log in. This is the same process as described for staff.
This process prepares students to manage their passwords completely on their own. Many students at this age can remember their log in from the previous year. Those who have forgotten will be able to use the "Forgot Password" feature to reset it. Incoming 7th graders who set up their recovery questions in Middle School (even though it was not required) should also be able to reset their password using the "Forgot Password" feature.
Teachers would primarily be helping new students or incoming 7th graders who have forgotten their password and cannot reset it. It is important that ALL students know their recovery responses, so it would be a good practice to have all students to complete the worksheet and/or review their responses.
What should the password and recovery responses be?
Middle School students are required to use a complex password. Fifth graders may begin the year using the same password they had last year or an easy one to remember. Sixth graders can start getting ready for Intermediate School by creating a complex password using capitals and/or characters. Students should not be using the same password (or or one with the same pattern) as others in their class, or a password that includes their username.
There are several pre-filled questions that can be used or students can create their own. Students should take some time deciding what their question responses should be. The answers should be as short as possible and easy to remember. Additional password recovery instructions can be found on the Password Recovery page.
